Product Description

Review

Wainwright's dry humour shines through - as well as his frustration at his own increasing limitations at the time - and his opening diagrams made me laugh out loud. (Cumbria Life )

AW's originals and Chris Jesty's revisions will always have a place on my shelves as the definitive guides - to consult pre- and post-walk, and of course far, far too precious to take out of the fells. (Cumbria )

For days when the weather puts the higher fells out of bounds or when you want a shorter half-day or evening walk, this guide provides a range of excellent options. In view of the large amendments in this revised edition needed to reflect changes that have taken place to routes in the past 38 years. I consider this to be a very useful acquisition for walkers. (Footsteps ) --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

Excellent 7 Feb 2010
Format:Hardcover
Although it's been a few decades since the walks were drawn and described, they are still very accurate.

The walks in this book are good if you don't have much time, such as a winter's afternoon when the night draws in quick. It also has peaks which while are not too challenging to ascend, give a great view and so are very rewarding and worthwhile.

As with all of Wainwright's other books, the maps are of superb detail and accuracy and the descriptions which accompany them are witty but also informative.

This is probably my favourite of the Wainwright books. It allows me to introduce people who aren't keen on an epic lakeland walk to get a taste of what Cumbria has to offer.
