Synopsis

Based on the 1960s cult sci-fi classic, this series from the 1990s carries on the legacy with an unstinting exploration into unknown realms. Aspects of the supernatural, paranormal, and extraterrestrial are incorporated into a show that does not sugarcoat its drama, but posits unfriendly aliens and technology run amok. Often dystopian in its view of the future, the show addresses time travel, alien visitation, the existence of God, and the concept of life as a hallucination. The first series includes the episode 'White Light Fever', in which a brilliant cardiologist may have found a way to avoid death, and 'Living Hell', in which an experimental brain implant goes horribly awry when an unfortunate young man begins experiencing horrific visions. Other episodes include 'Corner of the Eye', 'Dark Matters', and 'Caught in the Act'. The revolving cast in the first series included Beau Bridges (INTO THE WEST), Kelly Rowan (THE O.C.), Alyssa Milano (WHO'S THE BOSS, CHARMED), and Leonard Nimoy (STAR TREK).

At last!! More than ten years has passed since I became enthralled in a weekly dose of the outer limits and finally some bright spark has decided to get it out on DVD. There are some classic episodes in this first series and almost every episode that has been made has included a famous TV/Film star which adds credibility to some very well written sci-fi and thought provoking episodes. My only worry is that this series saw a release in the states quite some time ago and I haven't read or seen anything that has indicated the second series is coming out... When you see some of the garbage that is taking up valuable shelf space in the local entertainment shops, you'd hope that the follow up series to the Outer limits also comes out for those that have been fortunate enough to see and appreciate some classic cult TV.

I agree with the earlier review where the reviewer retracted his comments having been told TC Fox had no plans to release the remaining 6 seasons. Whats the point then? When I spoke to them they were very non-commital indeed, which doesn't exactly bode well. The US had releases of Season 1, a best of Season 1 & 2, and Seasons 3 and 4. Then again the US also had releases of Time Tunnel and the forthcoming Land of the Giants. No sign of those here either. Another case of UK customers getting shafted yet again. This Season was OK, certainly better than Season 2, but the show really hit it's stride with Seasons 3,4 & 5. I'm going to wait and see if MGM release a boxset of all 7 Seasons on Region 1.

YES!!! I cant wait its about time that they started to realise full seasons of the modern outer limits instead of just biting around with different story's along similar themes, I was starting to think this would never happen.

Although most of the episode I have seen I have enjoyed just now and again i've seen some that are truly magnificent, some of the best sci-fi I have ever seen has been certain episodes of the outer limits that I just caught on TV on the off chance, so without knowing what the episodes where called there was always little chance and no guarantee I could find them on DVD with the way they have previously been realised, but now with been able to collect all full seasons I know I will find the episode's again that where so spectacular when I start my collection and I look forward to finding some new great episodes along the way.

Because the outer limits is not a continues program just a set of single stories there is guaranteed to be something in there for every sci-fi fan, most episodes I have seen which is a very limited number in comparison to the number there have been I must admit, have been very thought provoking and very intelligently thought out, for that reason this is probably the most deserved 5 star rating I will ever give out.

UPDATE 10/06/07: I previously reviewed this box set before it was released, judging it on certain episodes I had seen on TV of which some of are outstanding, when I saw the release of season 1 I assumed the rest of the seasons would soon follow however I am really disappointed that this does not look to be the case, I wouldn't mind owning season 1 if it was to build up to part of a complete collection however by itself this box set is not worth buying there are very few decent episodes in this season and nothing really spectacular, so now having seen all this set has to offer and finding out there are no plans to carry on realising following season where much better episodes are included, I realise realising this was not worth the effort.

If the do decide to start realising the rest of the seasons then I take all this back and it should have 5 stars on the grounds it would be the start of a fantastic collection, but for now if i could change my 5 star rating to a 1 star rating I would but i can't the system wont let me
