The headnet is functional, light weight and of good quality material. The ring in the middel of the net avoid it from collapsing and thus sticking to one's face. I recommend this product for all looking for a good quality headnet.

It looks funny, yeah, but it works 21 Jun 2009

Walking around your yard wearing one of these does make you look like a beekeeper or astronaut or something, but it really works. It's like a portable screened porch for your head.

It's big enough to fit over the brim of a man's Panama hat. The metal ring keeps the net suspended evenly. The drawstring keeps insects from finding their way underneath.

Okay, it's great for gnats, or any other insects that zero in on the face. The problem is how to protect the rest of your body from biting insects. If you're looking at this product, chances are you're trying to avoid chemical repellents. I find that just wearing loose fitting, long sleeved clothing (made of breathable fabrics like cotton) helps a lot. The idea with loose clothing is not just to provide comfort in warm weather, but to keep the biting insects from reaching your skin. If they're aggressive you can always spray the clothing with a naturally based repellent like Cutter Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent instead of spraying it directly on skin.

The headnet interferes slightly with vision -- after all, you are looking through insect netting. But it's not something that would interfere with most yard and garden chores.

Getting it back in its convenient attached case is a bit of a trick -- the metal spring ring has to be twisted and doubled. I don't bother. I just leave the rig on my gardening hat all summer.

Just one thing wrong! 7 Sep 2013

This veil is the right length, the right mesh size, stays away from the face, closes at the neck and is easy to pack/carry and keeps all the bugs out. The only problem is that you can't see out of it! The mesh material has such a sheen that any light causes glare that can effectively blind the wearer. This is a serious problem when walking in wooded areas and trying to watch your step when the sunlight hits the mesh at the same time. Working in the garden or vineyard means constantly having to move your head to get the glare minimized to be able to see what you're trying to pick or do whatever task is at hand. I washed it in warm soapy water and while it did not harm the item, it did not reduce the glare. Get this one thing fixed and it would be a very effective bug barrier and a worthwhile product to have.

be gentle opening it 2 Jun 2011

I almost ripped it the first time opening it, because I thought it was zipped inside a pouch. It's not. The top-circle of fabric has a couple flaps with a zipper along them, and the whole thing basically turns inside-out and zips up into the top fabric. That's nice if you are seeking ultra-light hiking gear, but getting it out or all stuffed back in is a bit of work, not something you can do very fast. Having another separate cordura pouch to carry it in would be more convenient. Other than that, it works well. Any adult-sized boonie hat should fit under it.

works as promised 7 July 2011

I work in a yard that has way too many gnats. I have to spray my face directly or be bothered. I don't like to do that. This allows me to work in the yard without having to spray my head area. I can see the buggers trying to get at me, but they can't. The wire helps keep the netting from blowing into my face when there is a wind. If you have to wear a mask for allergies the wire also would be helpful.

neat design but not perfect 5 July 2011

Overall this is a good product that works well with a small hat such as a deck hand hat like shown, but it's really too small to fit a normal sized hat. The metal ring built in is the biggest plus to this design to keep fabric out of your face and the way it folds into itself is very nice. If your in an area with bug problems this really works well.
