Product Description

Product Description

Carrying on in Key Stage 1 is written to help teachers continue key practical activities and child focused learning throughout Key Stage 1. The activities are easily mapped onto the National Curriculum Programmes of Study for this age group, which is included in short form within the book. With the child at the centre of the activities, the book offers many exciting suggestions for topic based work, following on from and building upon the work children have done in the Foundation Stage. There is a host of ideas for using everyday materials such as paper and wood, along with purpose-designed construction materials such as Lego. The tasks included in the book are active, varied and challenging - guaranteed to interest both boys and girls. Outdoor Play looks at different sorts of outdoor spaces and some resources to use in them, keeping a good balance between what must be bought and what can be obtained free. Activities include play, games, plants and animals, mark making and constructing dens

Superb book! 6 Aug 2008
Format:Paperback
This is a superb resource for those working in both Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.

The book is full of excellent ideas which are invaluable both for early years practitioners and those in Key Stage 1, on a day to day level and for developing a more creative curriculum.

It is set out in chapters which support not just creative ideas, but curriculum ones too. Topics covered include:

Sound and music
Dens and shelters
Numbers
Stories
Petals, leaves, feathers and stones
Minibeasts
...as well as many, many more.

Each section suggests how the adult can support the children's learning, the NC Programmes of Study that apply, suggested resources and activities, as well as a wealth of weblinks and ideas.

This is the 'flagship' book of the new series by these great authors. Others, tied to ideas using specific resources (eg sand, construction, role-play) are covered in more depth in other books in the series, which are equally good.

I can recommend this book VERY highly for creative practitioners, or those looking to use the child centred and holistic approach found in the foundation stage curriculum in Key Stage 1.

What a rip off 4 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback
I'm not sure who wrote the previous review, but they must have more money to waste than I have. The book has 15 sections that are each 3 pages long and one whole page is repeated word for word in each section! A third of another page is also repeated in each of the 15 sections. If you look at the headings of each chapter it would take you just a few minutes to come up with at least as many suggestions as the authors of this book make. The remaining part of each section is devoted to where you can buy all the stuff from and useless suggestions such as 'google plants and flowers'. Well who would have thought of that idea! I don't imagine the other books in the series are any better. I've never written a bad review of something before, but this book made me furious!
