Carrying on in Key Stage 1 is written to help teachers continue key practical activities and child focused learning throughout Key Stage 1. Outdoor Play looks at different sorts of outdoor spaces and some resources to use in them, keeping a good balance between what must be bought and what can be obtained free. Activities include play, games, plants and animals, mark making and constructing dens


About the Author

Sally Featherstone has a wealth of experience as a teacher, head teacher and a local authority adviser and inspector. In recent years, alongside her activities in publishing, Sally has continued to build a national reputation as a trainer and consultant in the Primary and Early Years field.

This is a superb resource for those working in both Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.

The book is full of excellent ideas which are invaluable both for early years practitioners and those in Key Stage 1, on a day to day level and for developing a more creative curriculum.

It is set out in chapters which support not just creative ideas, but curriculum ones too. Topics covered include:

Sound and music
Dens and shelters
Numbers
Stories
Petals, leaves, feathers and stones
Minibeasts
...as well as many, many more.

Each section suggests how the adult can support the children's learning, the NC Programmes of Study that apply, suggested resources and activities, as well as a wealth of weblinks and ideas.

This is the 'flagship' book of the new series by these great authors. Others, tied to ideas using specific resources (eg sand, construction, role-play) are covered in more depth in other books in the series, which are equally good.

I can recommend this book VERY highly for creative practitioners, or those looking to use the child centred and holistic approach found in the foundation stage curriculum in Key Stage 1.
