This year has seen plenty more 999 activity, with tours of USA, Europe and the UK and the inevitable numerous appearances at the punk festivals. Expect an album of new material in 2004.
Recently 999 expert John Connolly was given the task of cataloguing the bands extensive tape archive. During this he discovered several reel-to-reel tapes containing some amazing long forgotten studio recordings from between 1977 and 1979.
Amongst these tapes were 6 previously unreleased recordings and some fascinating demos including an amazing working version of Feelin Alright With The Crew and stunning very different versions of Titanic (My Over) Reaction and English Wipeout and a song called Solution that transformed itself into Boiler.
All these perfect quality previously unheard studio recordings have been compiled into this 16 track CD packaged in a 12-page booklet with rare photos and sleeve notes by frontman Nick Cash.
Early 1979 saw 999 tour the USA, an achievement in itself as they were still without a USA record deal at the time! The response was ecstatic and a deal with Polydor sealed.
After two albums 999 left United Artists, recorded a further 10 albums and to date have completed 15 USA tours, 92 London gigs, 29 UK tours and 21 European tours. An impressive tally from one of the most outstanding bands of their generation.
