I've seen DTB countless times over the last 7 or 8 years and he's definitely some kind of genius. His performances and delivery brilliantly bursting the po-faced bubble of so much modern folk / alt-folk, as he veers from profund to ridiculous in the blink of an eye.
This album fills out his songs with more instrumentation, but doesn't lose too much of the experimental unpredictable edge of his unaccompanied (except for a delay/loop pedal) live shows.
The man's definitely an off-kilter genius, a wonky maverick of epic proportions. Let me put it this way, if the question was "What would John Martyn have sounded like if he was signed to WARP records?" David is the answer.
