Thanks to the brilliant Amazon Prime system, the barbecue arrived yesterday, the day after I ordered it. I had also ordered a "Patio Gas - 13kg Propane" cylinder from Calor and that also arrived the the same day (next day delivery). I mention the cylinder because I found it rather confusing as a beginner trying to work out which one would connect to the regulator. My understanding is that the regulator that comes with the Outback 250 has a "27mm Clip on" connector and that is compatible with this cylinder and the cheaper "Patio Gas 5kg Propane". I went for the 13kg cylinder because it is clearly cheaper in the long wrong being only 7 pounds extra for nearly 3 times as much gas. Be warned that the 13kg cylinder is rather heavier to lift than I expected it to be!
The instructions were very clear and easy to follow with lots of photographs. I found that if something was not well described or photographed it was because the item would only connect in one way. The nuts and bolts are all well labelled and in a shrink wrapped pack so little chance of there being any missing. You need your own tools but that is just a large Philips/crosspoint screwdriver and a spanner or adjustable spanner. I probably took about 45 minutes from start to finish but that was being quite slow and careful. Basically all you are doing is fitting the legs and shelf to the pre-built main body unit so there really is little to do. One reviewer here said the legs are very wobbly. I thought that may be the case as well until I'd fitted the bottom metal shelf which in my opinion makes the whole thing quite sturdy.
I was a bit nervous of connecting the regulator to the gas bottle but this was very simple. I just removed a yellow plastic cap from the bottle's valve, pushed the regulator onto the cylinder's valve and turned the regulator tap from the disconnected position to the off position. The barbecue taps were all in the on position so I switched those to off and then turned the regulator tap to on. This makes gas flow from the cylinder to the barbecue. As instructed I then just turned the left tap to full on, pressed the ignition switch and the burner lit first time.
I'm clearly no expert but I'd say there are not quite enough lava rocks provided with the barbecue so I'd recommend buying a bag from Amazon. The rocks did not cover the grid completely so flames can get through to the food.
I only had time for one quick test before the inevitable rain last night but I'm really pleased with the build quality and the ease of use of the barbecue. I've not used the gas ring yet.
[Later] I forgot to mention the included protective cover which is made out of good quality plastic and completely surrounds the barbecue when it's not in use and provides good protection from the weather.
