God bless Jack Hargreaves. I grew up watching Out of Town, and Jack, with such a mild but factual manner, always found ways to surprise you and show you the ways from a bygone age. The thing that I always remember when watching episodes of Out of Town was, 'Well blow me down, I never knew that is how they did that!' or 'So, that is what that thing is used for!' You always ended an episode wanting to know more, and Jack sometimes put out items for you to think about before the next episode which kept you captivated. This was Jacks way, and this series was just the best. Such a lovely series for adults and children alike, especially if, like me, you love the countryside and learning the old ways.

A Past Revisited 1 Oct 2008
When I think back to my childhood in the Dorset countryside, one television program was a must. Friday teatime and I could be found in front of our Radio Rentals television, enjoying my half hour of Jack Hargreaves.

Now 30 odd years later, I was once again a captive of "Out Of Town" I think it's a shame that there are only 28 episodes left of this brilliant series. Jack Hargreaves had so much to teach, not only the country folk but also the townies, whom he was really directing these show at.

I know it was Jack's intention to get all young children who lived in towns, out into the countryside and for many it was the first time in their lives that they had seen real cows, sheep even pigs.

Jack Hargreaves provided a calm look at the many ways of country living and he is a man many still miss.

The DVD set has to be the most interesting and enlightening series I have seen for a long time and I know I will get many hours of enjoyment from this set.

My wife and I watched most of Jack Hargreaves' TV programmes ('Out of Town' for example) when he was alive. My brother and he were friends and sometimes went fishing together but I never met him. Jack's programmes are always gentle; nostalgic of a way of rural life so missing in the fast, impatient, aggressive and frantic pace of life today. In his own easy, relaxed style, Jack describes country crafts and pursuits, animal husbandry, fly and coarse fishing, gypsy fairs, hobbies, nature and a way of life with a depth of knowledge and rich personal experiences which keep the viewer entranced all the way through.

Each time I tried to buy this complete boxed set of DVDs, I was thwarted by companies which advertised it at prices varying between around £40 to more than £100 but which failed to deliver it when ordered. On one occasion I paid but received nothing. Then someone told me it was available from Amazon for around £40 and so it was. My wife and I are rationing ourselves and watch just one programme a week as a real treat which we anticipate as soon as the latest one has been watched.

Thank you, Amazon, for a superb collection, swiftly delivered and obtained at a very good price. I'd have happily paid twice as much to have these programmes and if you obtain additional ones in the future, please contact me first.
