Biography

The New Mastersounds are a four-piece band based in Leeds, England, whose modern take on vintage soul-jazz, funk and rock draws influences from Jimmies McGriff, Smith, and Hendrix, as well as their most closely-associated mentors, The Meters. Try to imagine Grant Green and Lou Donaldson having a fight in a Hammond Organ shop while James Brown holds the coats, and you have some idea of what to ... 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album 17 May 2013
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
The New Mastersounds never seem to disappoint, and this new record doesn't either. Funky, classy, and bound to get your head bobbin' while you drive down the road, this latest venture is a well-polished, finished product. The only thing better than their studio work is to see them live and in person. Enjoy and God bless the funk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album! 3 Feb 2013

I'm new to this genre, heard it on Craig Charles Radio 6 show. I've no idea idea how it would compare to its peers but for me it works very well indeed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yet another fine album 28 Jan 2013

As of late 2012, this is the New Mastersounds most recent studio album. Like their other albums, it does not disappoint. It's similar to "Breaks from the Border" (2011) in that there are some vocal tracks. That classic NMS funky sound is there as always. Great grooves and solos remain the standard.

All the tracks are good except for "Welcome to NOLA"...not a fan of guest artist Papa Mali singing...errr TALKING...over the band playing.

Overall, I'd say 4/5. Great album, but not as amazing as "This Is What We Do" (2005) or "Ten Years On" (2009).

Lastly, take my word for it and *NEVER* pass up a chance to see this band live.
5.0 out of 5 stars NMS is back!! 17 Jan 2013

I fell in love with The New Mastersounds a few years back and have been fortunate to see them live a few times, so needless to say I am a NMS junkie!! I'll watch any bootleg on YouTube I can find, but there is nothing like a studio album from these guys. Sweet, tight grooves, mellow, 4 man vocals are all part of that distinct NMS sound and all that (and more) is heard on this album. I will say that there is 1 song I cannot stand, but even with that song on the album, it cannot take away from the 5 star rating. Thanks, NMS!!!!
