Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), WIDESCREEN (2.35:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Documentary, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, Trailer(s), SYNOPSIS: Against a backdrop of war and poverty, Out of the Ashes traces the extraordinary journey of a team of young Afghan men as they chase a seemingly impossible dream - shedding new light on a nation beyond burqas, bombs, drugs and devastation. The film follows the Afghan cricket team in their quest against the odds to qualify for the World Cup. It follows the squad over two years as they go from playing in their shalwar-kameezes on rubble pitches to batting their way around the globe and up the international league tables. At a time when headlines from Afghanistan are dominated by news of death and corruption, the film reveals a more human side to this beleaguered country which has endured three decades of war and occupation. With unrestricted behind-the-scenes access at international matches, the film follows the ups and downs of their epic journey. We track the team as they travel the globe - eating fish and chips in Jersey, watching tango dancers in Argentina and swimming in the sea for the first time off the coast of Tanzania. Witty, touching and nail-biting to the end, Out of the Ashes is a compelling story of triumph over adversity. ...Out of the Ashes (2010)

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart Warming Story 16 Mar 2011
Format:DVD
This is an amazing story about the success of the Afghan cricket team, which built a competitive international team in just ten years. The contrast between the poverty in which they live and play and the wealth of the places they travel to is astounding. It's just amazing that they were able to develop a technique on what were mainly stone pitches! A worthwhile buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming 13 Mar 2011

Out Of The Ashes is one piece of work I had been waiting for a long time after reading the review on cricinfo.. and am glad it did not disappoint. The movie traces the progress of the Afghan cricket team as it is on a quest to be a part of the cricket world cup 2011.
The characters are very likeable and tug at your heart. The honestness of Taj Malik and his boys makes you love them and cheer for them. The win against Jersey and the celebrations after it got me goose bumps and almost a tear too.. It is a movie that even non cricket lovers would appreciate and love.

The only disappointment is the lack of match scenes. Nothing is mentioned about individual performances.. How they actually fought off challenges during the course of a match. Their performance during the T20 world cup etc..

Nevertheless worth watching and sharing..

Great DVD. Don't regret purchasing it at all. Probably won't watch it again, though I may encourage my 10 year old son to watch it with me. But worth every penny. Read more
