Best Zombies-album The Zombies never made,
By fred.gonnetscher@wanadoo.nl (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Out of the Shadows (Audio CD)
Out of the Shadows of the illustrious twosome Blunstone & Argent is not only anexceptional album, but an essential one as well. Everyone could buy it blindly, whether you like the Zombies or not. Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent brought the best of their abilities together in an outstanding piece of craftmanship, all that after thirty years not playing together. The album starts with Home, a wonderful song with a nice piano-intro and Colins voice, pure as ever. It could be a Zombie-song, with this special kind of melancholy. The second song, A Girl Like That, could be even better. Oh Boy, what a passion, what an arrangement. And Rods recognizable Zombies-organ does not sound outdated at all, on the contrary. One might think two highlights may do for one album, but then comes Helpless, an amazing ballade, and the superb song brought out on single, Sanctuary. It is just another Zombies song, if I might say so, poppy with a pliant swing on it. And oh Lord, Colin Blunstone is still singing the stars out of the sky. But still the party is not over: whether it is Living in the Real World, a rocksong with some refined keyboardplaying from Rod, or the outstanding Only The Rain with a sparkling piano, to me it is all great stuff.. Well, I mentioned almost all songs, but I will stop now. This is the best Zombies-album the Zombies never made. Just buy it! Fred van der Gon Netscher

The incomparable Blunstone/Argent sound,
This review is from: Out of the Shadows (Audio CD)
This is pop music at its very best. How Colin Blunstone has failed to ignite the imaginations of the British buying public is a complete mystery to me, and Rod Argent is the most exciting keyboard player I've ever seen and heard. He's also one of the greatest pop music composers. These fabulous tracks like "Helpless", "Sanctuary", "Mystified", "Only the rain" and "Baby don't you cry no more" just make me want to listen to them over and over again. As a singer, Colin is unique, beyond compare, brilliant. Just buy and listen.

High quality and original new material,
By tb@technologist.com (Solihull, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Out of the Shadows (Audio CD)
Three tracks stand out above all others on this album: Home, A Girl Like That (co-written by Russ Ballard) and Sanctuary - the latter being released as a single. Rod Argent describes the material as a 'departure from the usual style' - Haunting melodies combined with Colin Blunstone's breathy vocals and outstanding guitar playing from Mark Johns make this an essential addition to any true music lovers collection.
