I saw Edwina Hayes when she appeared as the supporting act for nanci griffiths in April 2005. Ok - she showed the nerves in between songs that any aspiring artist would on such occasions. But once she started singing there was confidence, maturity in a voice that has range and clarity.
The albums adds instrumental backing, and punch, to the concerts solo acoustic style. The songs, her own compositions are strong, if a little derirative in their openings on a couple of tracks. Over time her songs should gain more variety and utilise more of the range her voice possesses, and importantly a varying of colour and emotion.
Thats the criticism out of the way. Why four stars?
She is the best support act I have seen in years. The album is an absolute belter. Buy it you won't be disappointed.
