The Electric Light Orchestra are one of the most successful British bands of all time. Formed after the break up of The Move in 1970 they pioneered the integration of orchestral instruments into pop music and released a series of groundbreaking and increasingly successful albums through the seventies that culminated in the multi-million selling Out Of The Blue. This concert is from the world tour for that album and was filmed at London s Wembley Arena in 1978. Already the subject of one of our all-time best selling DVDs (EREDV058) the concert is now available as a special edition in a fold out digipack inside a slipcase with a reproduction of the original tour programme and for the first time remixed from the original masters in DTS and 5.1 Surround Sound and PCM Stereo.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Deal! 24 Aug 2007
A few corrections are needed here!
This DVD was released in 2006 and is completly different from the earlier release.
This version is in 5.1 surround sound which makes it a billion times more better.
The sound is very very very different...this time it is LIVE!
The earlier DVD release had some of the songs overdubbed with the original songs over the top, why? Who knows! This DVD is totally live and cleaned up to perfection.
The bonus feature if you like is a replica tour programme which is great, plus it comes in a nice little package.
Great DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Light finally shone through! 10 Mar 2007
By Steve
It seems that many older reviews of this are confusing this 2006 release with the old 1978 mono mixed (are they miming?) release which until now had not received the attention it deserved. Yes the old version of this does sound muddy and Yes it does look like they are lip-synching to several songs truth is all other previous releases of this concert used the horribly inadequate TV sound mix which was broadcast in 1978. The band admittedly used a backing track (for time keeping purposes) because of the huge stage they were playing on. Now at long last the sound has been remastered and mixed properly now the band can be heard clearly as the audience did back then ,The string section can be heard properly at last all in glorious stereo for the first time. Overall this 2006 remastered version is a quantum leap in sound quality and should now set the record straight from the biggest grossing band in the world at that point, Now if they could just remove those cheesy '70s effects?

This is ELO Live!!!! "added" on bits from the producer of the original video/DVD..this is pure brilliance!..The late Kelly Groucutt , complements J.Lynne perfectly, and you can here the power of Bev Bevans drums!!!, and the squeaking cellos and Kaminski's violin.
Shame they cant get rid of the original producers, dodgy effects!

5.0 out of 5 stars Out Of The Blue Live - ELO 8 Mar 2011
By Paul D
You either like ELO or you don't, I do and this DVD has good tracks. "Mr Blue Sky" has such a good feeling to it and the "Roll Over Beethoven" climax shows a band enjoying the music they are making. The camera work is a little weird in places, could have been a lot better, but easy to say more than 30 years after the event. Perhaps the creators could have shortened the starting and ending interviews and added more to the concert footage. I bought the DVD because I missed the first part of the telecast on Sky Arts, it was worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars ELO Shine A Little Brighter 30 July 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
First tip. Look for the reviews that have an Amazon "Verified Purchase" sub title. You will,at the very least know that punter has a copy of what they're writing about.
Second tip. The confusion about this release is entirely warranted and I blame the various companies around the world releasing it.Some have simply taken the previously released dvd and given it the new cover art, including saying it's remastered and has 5.1 sound.I know this because I've bought this title three times trying to get the new audio mix.
Third tip.The ONLY place you can get the newly mixed audio version is by buying the same one I'm writing about. Look at the top of my review and you'll see my name here on Amazon. Below that is the line which starts with "This Review is from:" and is then followed by the products name.If it's in black and CANNOT be clicked on,you're on the right page.
Fourth tip.Click here "Out Of The Blue: Live At Wembley - Sp Ed [DVD] [2006]" for the 2008 re-release with dts 5.1 audio and ignore that it says 2006 in the title. This is the one you want just keep the old one for the "Discovery" video album which is not included here.
Confusion ended!

When I first published my review in December 2009, I might have been a little hard on this product, and upon second viewing this was the case. This DVD remaster certainly cleaned up many of the technical gaffs that occurred on the original television broadcast, such as the backing track being pushed too high in the mix on the original television mix.

Being born in 1994, I certainly can't vouch for how the television broadcast turned out to be. But I can say that they have cleaned up the sound considerably granted how muddy the original was, heavily edited and pushed out on a mono mix for 70s television, which gave them the unfair reputation that they were simply miming to tape. It was only intended to be a backup if the instruments untuned, or if the drummer had a heart attack from the heat of the stage.

Mercifully, neither of these happened, and it was critised that the audience could even hear the backing track... But that's a long time ago. The DVD has rectified that, and even mixed it into PCM Stereo / Dolby / DCM 5.1 surround sound, which is lovely.

Even the quality, granted it was recorded in 1978, is astounding. Fair enough blacks are crushed, there is comet tail streaking and there is a mysterious halo effect, but there is something about the uncalibrated warmth and colour of the footage is very aethestically pleasing to watch compared to the coldness of digital.

The set line up of this concert are also good, even at a time when ELO had hit their peak in 1978. I'll never understand why Mansfield still insists on directing in such a bizarre way - Silly transitions, recurring footage (a la Mr.
