Although it received mixed reviews in the press, this album is definitely not to be ignored. Certainly, trying to flog Japanese Big Beat in Britain is preaching to the proverbial choir, but with these relatively virgin artists comes a very fresh and very unique sound. The sheer quality of the music, of layers over layers of beats, bass, pianos, strings and an array of electronic noise creates a less in-your-face addition to the Big Beat host, and more of a down tempo, highly enjoyable, satisfying and ultimately adorable record more akin to Bentley Rhythm Ace than Fatboy Slim, The Crystal Method or the Dub Pistols. And while the album does not possess the accessibility of Headrillaz or the Dirty Beatniks, it still retains the chunkiness of Propellorheads and Indian Ropeman, with the haunting sounds wavering in and out kept in order by thumping beats. Hell, even the clubs may overlook this album (bad idea), but acts like Boom Boom Satellites and Titan are letting the planet hear international beats. Forget the happy-happy-brotherhood, innoffensive 'vibes' of World Music- grab in earful of world Big Beat and you'll never have to leave the speakers. Keep the love alive people.

Not only is this great music for dancing to, with some brilliant drum manipulations, it's got some very nice melodies and dubs woven in too. Great bass lines, a nice bit of jazz, some very powerful and dark piano and string dubs, and lots more. These guys clearly know what they're doing, and they manage to do it in a very accessable manner. Definately worth your cash.

The joys of electronica done well 19 Sept. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
As the RPM (techno, industrial, goth, electronic, new wave, gabba, poa, rave, etc.) Director of a College radio station, I have to listen to a lot of music that I have to determine whether or not I want to play it on the air. I must admit, there is a lot of crappy music that gets sent to us. This is not one of them. If you wish to expand your musical tastes beyond the simple loops of Chemical Brothers, beyond the same 'ol synth stylings of Crystal Method, and move into an etherial world of drum and bass with no boundries, this is your chance. This is just beautiful music. I have become tired of the how mediochre popular (American) music has become, and I'm glad that the Japanese are looking into the world of music the same way they look at technology, taking a concept and re-inventing it, making it a thousand times better. One request - please don't whine about how it's not like Crystal Method. There are other things out there. Expand your mind. Amazon.com is a portal. Use it.

Remember when electronica meant innovation? 7 Mar. 2000
By J. Tidwell - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
These guys do. I'm not sure why all the comparisons to Crystal Method (even in their days at City of Angels, CM never sounded like this) or why someone would put Photek in the same category as Crystal Method. Disregard all of that. If you've been a dance fan long enough to remember that the genre is all about pushing the envelope then you will love this CD. Insane structuring, inventive vocal overlays, just plain good.

excellent!! 15 Oct. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

will you quit this crystal method thing, lord CM's gotta be one of *the* most overrated electronic acts out there, they're just dead horrible..wannabes. now if u want just great, refreshing electronic, then get "out loud". I was blown away by this debut. It has such a wide variety of musical elements blended in. jazz, strings, guitar all nicely welded together with d&b and frantic breakbeats. go buy it - now =)

A real trip 22 July 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Boom Boom Satellites has come up with a very strong debut release. I believe this album is highly intelligent mix of drum and bass, clever lyrics, outstanding accompanying instrumentation, and superb sound engineering. The songs vary in moods from the insane and fast 'Oneness' and 'Push Eject' to the intense and somber 'On The Painted Desert'. All the songs are tirelessly crafted, so no endless loop beats here, the rhythms are dynamic and jive in a dizzying array of methods. Jazz elements can be detected in a sharp flight of the bumblebee, Dizzy Gillespie sort of way. Classical and other international elements can often be detected overlaying heavy bass and break beats. All in all if you are looking for a real music trip, the best of Japanese techno, and excellent instrumentals wrapped into one package, this album hits the spot.

Beats That Move You 18 May 2003
By Daniel Ratliff - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
When I first found out about BBS from Ridge Racer V and their song Fogbound, I was instantly hooked. After listening to a few more of their songs, I bought Out Loud and haven't stopped listening to it in 2 days.
It's an amazing mix of some AWESOME drumming (Intruder is possibly the coolest drum solo I've heard), great beats, and some nice singing (such as Push Eject). If you want something you can move to, this is a MUST have.
