Book Description

16 Dec 2012
One man’s journey moves him from despair over his job loss and a failed marriage, and leads him to buoyancy and hope. It begins with his golf instructor on the driving range, and takes him to some of the finest golf courses on three continents. But it’s the surprise encounters in coffee shops, airplane seats and an AIDS orphanage in southern Malawi that enable him to rebuild his life. His heart’s odyssey may well change the way you think.

Guy is a fine writer - that we know. His first novel is an enjoyable read, for sure, and it will also make you think.

It tells the story of a middle-aged man's rebound. When the bottom finally falls out of his world, Frank begins a journey of re-discovery. Facilitated by his golf coach and the new friends he makes along the way, he starts answering questions he's never asked and learning things about himself he didn't know.

You'll sympathise warmly with the main characters and enjoy following Frank's life-changing trip from Ontario to London to Southern Africa. Having lived in both Collingwood, Ontario and Surrey in the UK, I appreciated the cultural references, and enjoyed the shifts in location.

If you're a golfer, a romantic, a philosopher, or just enjoy a good story, then this book is for you. If the disappointments of your life mirror Frank's at all, then it may also prove to be encouraging and healing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read 19 April 2013
By Howard Vroon - Published on Amazon.com
Guy Chevreau has written a wonderful book in Out From the Rough. Not only is it well-written and an enjoyable, quick read, but Guy draws on his extensive, interesting travels and vast experience contemplating our human condition to tell a story dealing with loss, grief, challenge, change and rebirth. The human heart is an awesome, fascinating, and mysterious thing. And this story is that too - awesome, fascinating and mysterious. Guy takes us on an adventure into the heart, strips it bare, lays it open, and allows us to rediscover the greatest superpower on earth: Love. Thanks Guy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring 25 Mar 2013
By James Sheets - Published on Amazon.com
In most cases divorce is not our friend, nor is it something to be desired. So much for what is on paper. In the real world sometime the thing we never thought we would see happens. Then what? Dr. Chevreau does a master full job job of walking us through the maze of divorce, the aftermath of divorce and the fact that there is life after divorce. Out From The Rough provides pathos, humor, romance and most of all hope. Would that more authors would write on real-life themes with the excellence that Chevreau does.
