Guy is a fine writer - that we know. His first novel is an enjoyable read, for sure, and it will also make you think.
It tells the story of a middle-aged man's rebound. When the bottom finally falls out of his world, Frank begins a journey of re-discovery. Facilitated by his golf coach and the new friends he makes along the way, he starts answering questions he's never asked and learning things about himself he didn't know.
You'll sympathise warmly with the main characters and enjoy following Frank's life-changing trip from Ontario to London to Southern Africa. Having lived in both Collingwood, Ontario and Surrey in the UK, I appreciated the cultural references, and enjoyed the shifts in location.
If you're a golfer, a romantic, a philosopher, or just enjoy a good story, then this book is for you. If the disappointments of your life mirror Frank's at all, then it may also prove to be encouraging and healing.
