CD Description
''Quality Celtic crossover folk/rock/jazz'', ''some sterling results !'' - (FolkROOTS magazine) - 'The long awaited release of the album 'Out on the Edge' from Chris Dawson's band KELTIAC'. The band's melodic sound is based around traditional flutes, celtic harps and the uilleann pipes, playing principally the compositions and well crafted, expressive arrangements (for all instruments) of Chris Dawson. A number of compositions on the album are inspired by an ancient historical site called 'the Edge', at Alderley Edge in the north west of Britain where some of the tunes and ideas were composed, hence the title of the album ! The tracks range from a traditional acoustic sound, to mysterious ambient pieces inspired by local legends, to big dynamic arrangements with many other instruments including mandolin, bouzouki, bass, drums, didgeridoo, bodhran, electric guitar, bombarde, biniou kozh, etc. Some major folk artists also feature on the album, giving credit to Chris s music, including Dan Ar Braz, Michael McGoldrick (Capercaillie), Sylvain Barou (Guidewires), Annie Ebrel, Alain Genty (Barzaz, Gwerz). The CD is nicely presented in 'digipack' format including booklet with all track details and information. please note: This is the official international release of the album. It differs from the previous one year release which was only distributed in France on a different label, which is a different mix, recording and mastering.
About the Artist
KELTIAC is a band formed by north-west UK folk musician Chris Dawson, now based in France, he grew up amongst the fantastic musical diversity in and around Manchester and the north-west, playing particularly irish/celtic music including the not so well known traditional music of his native region of Lancashire and the north-west in general. Whilst staying close to his musical roots, he likes to keep an open mind and attitude towards other musical styles and influences, (as you can hear in his compositions and arrangements on the album 'Out on the Edge'). Chris Dawson is also known in the traditional/folk music world for his flute making skills, with players such as Michael McGoldrick, Jean-Michel Veillon, Sylvain Barou, etc all using his renowned 'Rhiannon' bamboo flutes. . . and is also one of the very rare flute players who can play the flute using circular breathing, (hear on the track 'the wizard's well') a technique which allows to play indefinitley without a break in the note. . .
