This is one of the most important books I have ever read. I loved Waking From Sleep but I liked this even more - it's a bit more readable, a real page-turner even, full of amazing and inspiring stories, such as the woman who lost her limbs in the 7/7 attacks but feel as if she's now living 'Life Two', in a new state of appreciation - and the 'Launderette Guru' who came close to dying of a heart attack, and when he recovered he had a completely new set of values, and a sense of meaning and connection. And also the American author who was paralysed and went through months of misery and despair (even more so after his medical insurance ran out) till he felt he had no alternative but to accept his situation, and that was when he underwent a shift into a higher state of being. It's not just a feelgood book though - he's a psychologist, and gives a brilliant explanation of why turmoil can cause spiritual awakening. I love the analogy of the caterpillar and the butterfly, and it really does seem that this higher state is somehow latent in human beings. This state is much closer to us than we might think, and this book suggests how we can gain access to it, stripping away the normal fairy-fairyness of mind body spirit books.
