Product Description

Review

An important contribution to the shift in consciousness that is happening on our planet at this time. (Eckhart Tolle )

A fascinating and illuminating journey through the landscape of spiritual transformation. (Sharon Salzberg, Author Of Lovingkindness )

Out of the Darkness is filled with amazing stories of enlightenment brought about by life's most difficult circumstances. It helps us to realise that we can always choose to make something good out of the worst that life can offer us, thereby greatly reducing our fears and inviting happiness to embrace us. A truly inspiring book! (Susan Jeffers Phd, Author Of Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway® )

Some of the best research, stories, and answers to the perennial question, Why (and how) do some people emerge from difficult times stronger, wiser, and more grateful, while others sink into depression, bitterness, or resignation? The stories are fascinating and inspiring. They are like breadcrumbs in the fairytale; follow their trails so that your own turmoil can be spun into transformation. (Elizabeth Lesser, author of the New York Times bestseller, Broken Open: How Difficult Times Can Help Us Grow )

Steve Taylor's suggestions for encouraging awakening...could transform human civilization. We could move from a culture of domination, violence and destruction, to one of partnership, peace and respect for nature. Out of the Darkness is an important contribution to achieving this dream. (Network Review )

A thoughtful, thought-provoking and inspirational account. (Psychology Today )

Fascinating...illustrates the almost infinite capacity of humans beings to overcome suffering. (Natural Health & Beauty magazine )

In his new book, Steve Taylor reminds readers of the resilience of our human spirit and our capacity to find light in the darkness as we pass through that dark night of the soul to find a brighter dawn. (Dan Millman - Author Of Way Of The Peaceful Warrior And The Four Purposes Of Life )

A wonderfully clear and inspiring book about the way great suffering and ordeal can lead to sudden awakening. Its importance for our menacing times and for the transformation being birthed by them cannot be exaggerated. (Andrew Harvey author of The Hope: a Guide to Sacred Activism )

This is one of the most important books I have ever read. I loved Waking From Sleep but I liked this even more - it's a bit more readable, a real page-turner even, full of amazing and inspiring stories, such as the woman who lost her limbs in the 7/7 attacks but feel as if she's now living 'Life Two', in a new state of appreciation - and the 'Launderette Guru' who came close to dying of a heart attack, and when he recovered he had a completely new set of values, and a sense of meaning and connection. And also the American author who was paralysed and went through months of misery and despair (even more so after his medical insurance ran out) till he felt he had no alternative but to accept his situation, and that was when he underwent a shift into a higher state of being. It's not just a feelgood book though - he's a psychologist, and gives a brilliant explanation of why turmoil can cause spiritual awakening. I love the analogy of the caterpillar and the butterfly, and it really does seem that this higher state is somehow latent in human beings. This state is much closer to us than we might think, and this book suggests how we can gain access to it, stripping away the normal fairy-fairyness of mind body spirit books.

Wow - Wonderful 12 Mar 2011

Wow- I cant really find the words to say how much I liked this book.
He explains the workings of the Transformation that people undergo, sometimes known as
awakening or enlightenment.

I felt I knew all the lovely people he interviewed, he treats them with Respect, admiration and affection.
The final chapter offering the tools of Transformation through , Detachment, Spiritual Practice and Awareness of Death is Inspired.

I loved New Earth by Eckhart Tolle but dare I say it to me this book is even better ( no disrespect to the Marvellous Eckhart).
Hopefully with this book everyone will in time find the Peace and Happiness Steves " Shifters" found without the need of the great suffering they all so courageously endured.

I bought this book in Waterstones on Sunday, after seeing a feature about it in the Sunday Times. I read it in two days - the style is very fluent and the stories keep you enthralled. Now that I've read it, the world seems a slightly different place. The book shows that we really don't have as much to be afraid of as we think, that even when awful things happen, it can lead to growth and a positive out come in the end. A very profound and inspiring book which is completely accessible and readable.
