And so....the Natalie Merchant era closes with this the best album ever recorded by 10.000 Maniacs.
From the opening track, 'Noah's Dove',to the finale,'I'm not that man',Natalie and the boys weave a velvet tapestry of jangling strings and soaring vocals which are link the tracks together like silver thread.
As a band,10.000 Maniacs never reached the popularity heights of the first division stadium rockers and platinum album sellers but who cares....Leave the blinkered masses to their Britney and Boni Jovi pop pap.....The Maniacs are too good to be popular.
'Our Time in Eden' is a swansong of sorts-even though the band live on with Mary Ramsey up front.
In an ideal world the album would find itself listed on one of those Rolling Stone Top 50 'Greatest' lists.Alas, like it's creators,it's destined to live on as a cult classic instead.

If you ever buy one album randomly, make it this one! The last album from the 10,000 maniacs with Natalie Merchant and by far their best overall. Every song is stunning, from the ecstatic "these are days" and "stockton gala days" to the beautiful "noah's dove" and "eden" (very possibly the best thing they ever wrote). There are definite twitches here of where Merchant went on to take her solo stuff and it is quite different in tone to the earlier maniacs albums. There are still some suitably politically dissatisfied nuggets though (like the brilliant "candy everyone wants") to give some continuity with the earlier albums.
I have listened to a fair bit of music and this is quite simply the most underexposed album i have ever heard. Buy it, love it and be amazed by how few people know about it!

Our Time in Eden is a magnificent offering from a criminally underrated band. Natalie Merchant's voice remains simple, yet powerful and haunting throughout. All of the songs are beautiful, but particularly memorable are the anti-death penalty polemic I'm Not the Man and the glorious affirmation of the gift of life that is These are Days. Technically brilliant, easily accessible yet challenging, Our Time in Eden is the album of the decade.

This is a fantastic final release from this band with Natalie Merchant fronting them. I love Natalie Merchant's voice. Whenever I find a cd that I can really listen to from beginning to end, over and over, I think it is definitely worth writing a review for and praising it highly. I enjoy every song on this cd and would happily have it stuck in my cd player. All of the band's releases are highly enjoyable, but I think this one is the best of the bunch.

I think I was originally put off by the name of the band - 10,000 Maniacs suggested a punk influence which I didn't want. However, I have now discovered Natalie Merchant, quickly recognised how wrong I'd been and I love the soft melodic material. If you haven't already discovered Natalie and her band for yourself, but love folk and soft rock, then have a listen.

When I tried to rip the album to my iTunes database, sadly, my PC refused to recognise the disc. Happily though, it was also included in the Original Album series - and that one ripped perfectly!

O melhor disco dos 10.000 maniacs, com a voz de Natalie a acompanhar uma banda muito competente e com um ritmo excelente. Recomendo.
