I discovered this book after reading W.B. Herbert's "Railway Ghosts and Phantoms", in which there was a chapter simply titled "Extracts from Our Haunted Kingdom". I was interested in following this up, and so bought the original book.
The layout of "Our Haunted Kingdom" is typical of many other occult books - it is a collection of stories about ghost sightings, poltergeist activity, feelings of dread etc. from all across the British Isles. Interestingly, though, the Isle of Man and Ireland are also included, whereas similar books usually confine themselves to England, Scotland and/or Wales, and, of even greater interest to the reader, some of the incidents reported in this book are incidents that the author himself had experienced.
Normally, I do not recommend most occult books, since many ignore the paranormal altogether and begin to write swathes on pseudoscience to fill the pages, but this one doesn't. It makes no absurd claims about druids or ancient astronauts, but instead sticks to the bare facts, and reports each sighting as he heard it, rather than embellish it with any crackpot theories.
Therefore, I happily recommend "Our Haunted Kingdom" to any interested parties, and encourage the people who own the rights to make a modern reprint, for they have a fine gem of a book here, and they should not let it go to waste.
