The term "revisionist" is often used of historians who essay views of a subject contrary to received opinion or critical trends. I would hesitate to dub Miss Seymour's superb book with this single epithet but the task she achieves should cause our whole opinion of Lady Ottoline Morrell to be revised. Quite apart from the fascination of the ways of the English aristocracy, with its arrogance, selfishness and eccentricities, the courageousness and integrity of Lady Ottoline are portrayed so as to record a truly rounded study of an important character in early 20th century history. As with the "life" so the reader will gain a lot of information from the "times" described. I enthusiastically recommend it.
