Once you've clipped the PB into this case, it is considerably larger.
The case is solid plastic which clips in two pieces around the PB, and then a rubber surround which slips over the plastic adding a second layer of protection for shocks/bumps.
But this is useful for obviously the protection you get. I've not dropped it yet, so can't comment on the strength as this is a much heavier unit than my BB Bold 9700 with the Commuter case which works VERY well when dropped.
*** UPDATE*** 07/01/12 - I threw the PB across the car park the other day by accident - it was from about four foot onto the concrete and it slid across the car park. One edge of the Otterbox case has some pretty deep scrapes but the playbook was protected fine, no problems.
The screen is covered by a very thin piece of clear plastic which means you can still use the touch screen - works well, but doesnt feel as good as using the screen natively - of course, this is what you sacrifice for protection.
The size makes it good to hold and the sound from the speakers is not inhibited in any way - all the access jacks etc can be reached. There is even a stand that works well with two viewing angles - works great sitting on my desk at work and can be stood in portrait or landscape.
Overall very happy - well designed case - high quality, have used for a month and taken off/on a few times and the rubber has not 'sagged' and clips have not snapped/worn.

This is a well made case that I chose to protect my Playbook from my young children. It feels good in the hand and you can take the rear plate off to cover the screen during transport, especially useful in a handbag with keys in.

This case does everything and more!
I could not believe how protective it was when it arrived, screen protector built in, solid plastic case clips round it, then a rubber "bouncer" to protect from impact damage, followed by the stand that clips on. Allows charging while its in the stand, nicer to hold, and stops you getting your grubby mits all over the screen.
