Land Otter Man, aka, The Kushtaka

Kushtaka or Kooshdakhaa is a Tlingit word meaning “land otter man.” The Kushtaka is on one hand the nemeses of the Tlingit people, yet necessary to their Shamans who play a critical role in the survival of the Tlingits. The Tlingit people are as mysterious in their beliefs as the Kushtaka, making for strange bedfellows.

“Otter Tales- Stories of the Land Otter Man and Other Spirit Stories based on the Folklore of the Tlingit of Southeastern Alaska” is an excerpt from the book, “In Search of the Kushtaka” by Dennis Waller. The purpose of these 10 stories is to serve as an introduction into the myths and legends of the Tlingit People.

More About the Author

Dennis Waller, author of several books, is recognized as an expert on spiritual experience, self-discovery, and exploring the human consciousness. As writer, speaker and philosopher, his teachings invoke an introspective view on how to discover one's true authentic self through a higher sense of consciousness and awareness. He teaches classes in the Dallas area on several subjects including Enochian Magic and Developing Your Psychic Abilities. He is best known for his work in the field of Indigos, people who possess unusual or supernatural abilities. His other fields of expertise include comparative religion, the law of attraction, and interpreting Eastern thought's relevancy to science and quantum physics. He is in demand as a guest speaker on radio programs, a lecturer at churches and life enrichment groups, and conducts workshops for Indigos.
He doesn't like long walks on the beach at night nor does he care for round balloons but does enjoy an occasional butterfly or cricket on a stick but only if served with fries. This bit of non-sense is included to see if you really read these bios. If you have then you will enjoy his sense of humor. Never take life too seriously, you will die someday so make the most of it, go out for an ice-cream, feed the ducks and tell someone you love that you do love them, even if you're mad at them, unless you're really mad like someone I know, then, maybe a phone call would be better.
Now, enough with the non-sense, but really, find a way to enjoy live and love!

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting collection of tales 20 Jun 2014
By Nat79
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is an interesting collection of tales about the Land Otter Man and other spirits. I liked it, even though this is not the typical genre of book I tend to read. I would recommend to people who enjoy native stories. Even without it being my normal type of book, I enjoyed what I read and the pages turned quite easily - I just don't have a lot to compare it to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Otter Tales - 10 Spirit Stories 31 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a charming book full of 10 mythological and entertaining tales. These tales of the land otter and other spirits will keep you turning the pages. Many of them deal with the aftermath of grief and how we cope with it, but they also include tales of avarice and envy as well as love. They are well written and give you a real feel for the culture of the Tlingit people. A great read for anyone interested in native tales or just good stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting Read About the Kushtaka (Land Otter Man) Myths 19 Jun 2014
By Caroll Lee - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read both the Otter Tales and Dennis Waller's book Kushtaka and his researches
are amazing. This book is a good introduction to the folklore of the Tlingit people.
Dennis is THE expert to turn to on Tlingit folklore and myth, but there is
something more than just folklore here, there are clues to something bigger going on
that links to the Nephilim, fallen angels, and supernatural beings that live amongst us.
I have drawn a lot of excellent ideas from Waller's books, and would highly recommend it
to anyone interested in mythology, mysticism, and ancient astronaut/alien theory,
