I'd never heard of this band until a few days ago, when I was watching the BBC's Scottish Gaelic-language channel, BBC Alba, (no, I don't speak a word of it.....I was just that bored). They appeared as just one item in a succession of acts, but I was blown away, and continue to be so after buying this album. I'm particularly partial to Irish traditional music (rather than songs), so this is ideal as there's no singing. Just instrumental talent at genius level. The arrangements seem to have been tweaked just enough to update them a bit for the modern ear, (without doing a "Steeleye Span"), and the inclusion of an acoustic bass player gives an unusual drive to the tunes. It also helps that they've apparently found a flute player who clearly has no need to breathe. If, like me, you've ever been a fan of The Chieftains, have a listen to this, and hear how it SHOULD be done.
