One of the first recordings by the legendary Mark Lanegan. Better than the earlier released but later recorded "Even if and Especially When". It is a short 15 minute EP from the mid 80's but Barriers is one of the catchiest songs ever, and well worth being in any Lanegan or grunge collection.
You should get "Buzz Factory" first if you are just getting into the Trees as it is an early masterpiece, later albums "Sweet Oblivion" and "Dust" should be next, but if you have these, you need this.

This debut from the Trees is a surprising mixture of musicianship which clearly shows their future direction. Not has heavy or laden with attitude as their future releases, it does present an attitude and outlook on life that would have been considered revolutionary at the time. The musicianship is excellent, the lyrics mature and confident, but the vocals reflect a youthfulness, even an innocence, not found in later albums. Overall, this cd sounds like a demo tape, not only in sound and composition, but also in attitude, as if the trees were testing the water, so to speak. the first steps of a fantastically talented band whose music and influence on the rock genre is too often overlooked. Not a classic album, but a valuable addition to a fans collection.
