Product Description

Chosen to work in HR but worried about its reputation? Looking to make a positive impact as quickly as possible? Concerned about how you can really 'add value'? To a lot of people in business 'Human Resources' (HR) are a necessary evil, seen to be sitting at the top of a proverbial ivory tower and having very little influence on company results. But it doesn't have to be this way. "HR & Other Swear Words" is aimed at practitioners new to the profession and intent on breaking down the stereotypes that exist around HR and its value. It will also benefit established professionals who are reflecting on their own impact and are looking for different perspectives. Quite simply, this guide and its practical, easy to read format gives you all the practical advice and tips you need to really make a difference and avoid your role becoming another swearword or obstacle to be overcome in your organization. It's ultimately about having credibility, using expertise and delivering results; here are the simple lessons that will help give you that magic formula for success. Paul Marsh FCIPD career changed from Sales to HR ten years ago. His experience gained mainly from the retail and media sectors, he is currently HR Director for some of the UK's most respected recruitment brands including FSS Finance, Crone Corkill and Strategi HR. He is a regular contributor to trade journals and magazines and always leaves out swearwords!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, 17 Jul 2009

This book is ideal for those new to HR who want to develop & those HR professsionals who want to learn new approaches. It also allows you to gain a better understanding of how others see the world of HR. I found it an easy to read book, with chapters I was able to dip in and out of to learn tips and tricks on how to deal with certain circumstances. I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone in HR or anyone who works closely with HR in their business.

HR Magazine **** - 'A great little book, an authoritative guide. The book offers practical advice about how newcomers to HR can do their jobs better. Nicely constructed, simple to read its one for HR Directors to give to their staff'

Grapevine Magazine - 'Its no nonsense approach avoids jargon and instead offers workable ideas and advice in a plain-spoken way'

5.0 out of 5 stars At last a down to earth, practical book about working in HR !!, 29 Jun 2009
By S. TOLL (Middlesex, England) - See all my reviews

Been in HR for a couple of years and this would have been great to have had at the beginning. Goes against traditional ways of doing things when it comes to things like recruitment and appraisals and says what a lot of HR people think but won't say! A few of the lessons here have definitely helped make me a better HR professional all round - would recommend.
