Product Description

Product Description

2006 UK debut album recorded at The Strong Rooms with Gill Norton (The Pixies, etc.) and Brixton's Dairy Studios with Paul Schroeder (The Stone Roses). Although they have released a few low-key singles, the press and public reaction has been incredible. Leader Alex Miller is already showing all the traits of becoming a fascinating frontman. With impulsively paranoid, unashamedly romantic, quintessential English vocals and lyrics torn equally between love and anguish, comparisons to Ian Curtis and Morrissey wouldn't be misguided. Features the singles, "All Over This Town" and "Black & White".

These boys are good 31 May 2006
Format:Audio CD
The Upper room have arrived quietly but this could be the surprise hit of the summer - Sometimes though when you're a fan of an unknown or new band you don't want them to become the next big arena band; you want keep them to yourself so you can still enjoy watching them play in front of a couple of hundred people.

Still, the album is good, no wait play it through again and it's great - Where are the album fillers? There are none; 12 of the finest pop songs you could hear - So who do they sound like?

It's hard to say - on tour they play "I will follow" by U2, better than the Irish men themselves; however, they are no U2. They are more pop yes, but that's not a bad thing. These are well-crated songs, very cheery, never too sentimental.

The 2 singles, "All over this town" and "Black and White" are catchy, wonderfully sounding sing alongs, but then you put them along side the beautiful "Never come back" and "Kill kill kill" and you can't really pick out singles from album songs; they will be big, well they deserve to be big, far more interesting to listen to than Keane, the Feeling or snow patrol.

Still this album might remain a little known gem of 2006, but if you spend your money you can't be disappointed with what you hear.

Here's hoping the boys get the success their songwriting and artistry deserves.

what a brilliant album. never mind the arctic monkeys the UR could well be the next big thing in the UK. The whole album from start to finish is packed full of memorable and catchy pop melodies. one of the best albums I have ever brought.

The Upper Room are definitely one of the bands that you shouldn't miss this year. 'Other People's Problems' is a jaunty, memorable, summery classic, which will probably disappear without trace, but deserves so much better. Starting with the inspired 'All Over This Town' and maintaining the pace via 'Never Come Back' and 'It Began on Radio' this album will be in your head and permanately on top of your album collection. It's tough to choose a weak link on this album such is the standard of songwriting, although i'd choose 'Your Body' if you held me at gunpoint. If you're going to buy two comparatively unknown albums this year, make it this one, and 'Best Party Ever' by Boy Least Likely To. Enjoy!
