The Upper room have arrived quietly but this could be the surprise hit of the summer - Sometimes though when you're a fan of an unknown or new band you don't want them to become the next big arena band; you want keep them to yourself so you can still enjoy watching them play in front of a couple of hundred people.
Still, the album is good, no wait play it through again and it's great - Where are the album fillers? There are none; 12 of the finest pop songs you could hear - So who do they sound like?
It's hard to say - on tour they play "I will follow" by U2, better than the Irish men themselves; however, they are no U2. They are more pop yes, but that's not a bad thing. These are well-crated songs, very cheery, never too sentimental.
The 2 singles, "All over this town" and "Black and White" are catchy, wonderfully sounding sing alongs, but then you put them along side the beautiful "Never come back" and "Kill kill kill" and you can't really pick out singles from album songs; they will be big, well they deserve to be big, far more interesting to listen to than Keane, the Feeling or snow patrol.
Still this album might remain a little known gem of 2006, but if you spend your money you can't be disappointed with what you hear.
Here's hoping the boys get the success their songwriting and artistry deserves.
