Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) are a joke at the police station. Can this down and out duo, nerd and hot headed tough guy, overcome a plethora of humorous obstacles, accidents, and misunderstandings to bust the bad guys in a high profile case and gain the respect of their peers?

3.0 out of 5 stars Oddball - but not entirely in a good way 3 Mar 2012
Format:DVD
This movie was recommended to me recently, and despite being disappointed by the last four or five Will Ferrell starring outings I've seen I thought I'd give it a go. It starts off as a high-octane cop thriller set in New York, however once this somewhat misleading opening pans out, what's left is a frankly bizarre offbeat comedy, whereby Ferrell and extremely angry partner become embroiled in the dodgy dealings of Steve Coogan's foppish businessman. Suffice to say it's a mediocre affair with a couple of laugh-out-loud moments and some unsatisfying cameos from the likes of Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes, Samuel L Jackson and Dwayne Johnson.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall a very funny film 18 Mar 2011
Format:DVD
As has been suggested by the trailer, this film follows the often calamitous and frequently hilarious "other guys" Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. This is a very good comedy and is well worth a watch.

The film begins with a brilliant cameo appearance from Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L Jackson, which introduces the comparatively dull main characters. There are excellent performances all around; from the performances of the leads to excellent supporting roles by Steve Coogan and Eva Mendes - everyone contributes to the film.

The one criticism that I would have is that amongst the many moments that will have you laughing out loud, there are a few awkward jokes that frankly feel forced and completely unfunny. Fortunately for Ferrell, his goofy demeanour and acting style allows him to remain funny when these situations arise; Mark Wahlberg on the other hand looks like the only person laughing at the joke they've just cracked.

I also admire the fact that the film, despite its comedy, attempts to tackle a serious and relevant issue in today's society - that of unscrupulous investors and bankers (a point that is hammered home with some interesting facts at the end credits).

This is a very funny film, with several very funny moments delivered by a series of excellent comedic acting performances. There will be the occasional "funny situation" that has you cringing, but bear with it and you'll be laughing again in no time!

5.0 out of 5 stars MW makes this ! 29 Aug 2011
Format:Blu-ray
Will Ferrell is funny but its not him who seals this. MW at the dinner table scene is the funniest sketch for years.... not belly laughs through out but a classic movie. hilarious.

4.0 out of 5 stars Silly but well done
This is one of those films that I bought on the recommendation of a friend and will probably never watch again, that said it was a really well done bit of slapstick.
