These are already available in hardware shops and I have bought two already - going back for more. They are very versatile.
The silver light stick is actually a separate piece to the white stand and can be inserted onto the stand horizontally (as shown in the picture) or vertically from the centre of the stand. Alternatively the light stick can be easily popped out to use like a (side-lit) torch; great for getting to the back of dark drawers. When used with the stand the light stick can rotate through 360 degrees and is still held firmly in place.
The stand can be attached to worksurfaces by adhesive stickers or screws. I haven't used the adhesive method, so I can't attest to how long it'll last, but the stickers appear very strong.
As you would expect with this size of light the illumination is great up close but diminishes quite a bit as you move further away. That said, they do provide enough light at distance to see what you are doing. I'm currently using these to light up cupboards at the back of my garage, but I have tried them out on the walls of the garage and am intending to buy more to attach to the walls to provide some work-light on dark evenings.
The batteries should last for ages, but pair this with a solar-powered battery charger and you've got a great energy saving solution.
