I liked this release very much and as a collector of late 19th/20th century orchestral music, you've to hear this.
Be warned: don't expect to hear undiscovered masterpieces: this isn't Dvorak.
Hearing these symphonies gave me the impression I had hearing Alexander Moyzes' symphonies (on Marco Polo) for the first time: finely crafted works, with an occasionally good tune and good craftmanship. Nothing more & nothing less! In the slower movements and tempos (and the 2nd Symphony has some) the playing of the Osnabruck orchestra is sometimes coarse. The recording doesn't help now and then, a bit raw.
If you would like to hear some very good Foerster compositions I'd recommend his Cyrano De Bergerac & Shakespeare Suite (on the Supraphon label). That's a class of it's own.
