Product Description

The Realm of the Senses is perhaps the most notorious erotic film in cinema history - having been banned at the 1976 New York Film Festival and denied a video release in the UK until 2000. Empire of the Passion deservedly won Oshima Best Director at the 1978 Cannes Film Festival for the thrilling ghost story set in late 19th century rural Japan.

Oshima's scenes of unsimulated sexual activity between the actors are visual poetry- if a macabre poem- on the screen. Both these films are masterfully directed and shot. The Powerpal in sexual relationships and lethal possessive nature of the entity are explored in a tasteful if somewhat shocking in its frankness. They are all beautifully shot, and reveal echoes of the death/pleasure principle.

Masterpieces of cinema whichever way you look at it.
