5.0 out of 5 stars Ortlieb Map Case 4 Jun 2009
Verified Purchase
Excellent product. Don't seem to be able to get these in any shops around Chester. All other map cases that I have used in the past have leaked at the seams. This is totally waterproof.

5.0 out of 5 stars totally waterproof 30 Sep 2009
By Tarpig
There is no better map case available IMO. Using Ortlieb's familiar "roll closure" the case obtains a completely watertight seal.

There are a few minor drawbacks in practical usage, though:
1) Folding your map to fit can sometimes cause problems -it is usually best to cut the 5mm edge off the cover of OS maps. Refolding the map in high winds and rain can also be tricky! But that's not Ortlieb's fault.
2) After a (very) long time the plastic on my oldest examples have begun to slightly discolor yellow.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only map case. 4 Jun 2010
This product hasn't changed for at least 10 years. Why? Well, it just simply works. Made of neoprene, it is so strong yet very flexible, even in the cold. Also it gives you a complete view of the map, and both sides too. It is easy to fit the map in, it is easy to release the velcro closer and refold the map, it has a good lanyard, it is as convenient as a map case can be. I have had one for a good ten years and it is still going strong if a little yellow now. When I bought it I never thought I would have it so long, as so many of it's predecessors had failed. I'm getting another one as nowadays, I scan and copy sections of maps and guides and use these on the trail. Much more convenient than taking the actual documents, which can be bulky. Also, my eyes are not as good as they were and to enlarge a map so I can see it easily is a real benefit. When the trip's over, I just destroy the copy, including all the marks I've made on it, and my original map is ready to use again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Map Case 2 July 2010
Great case, excellent delivery. To make it even better and more comfortable to wear the neck cord could be wider similar to a camera strap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate waterproof map case! 28 Jun 2012

If you need a flexible clear waterproof mapcase, look no further. That's the one. Even if it's not the cheapest around, it is much better than any of the others I tried and trew away quickly.

2.0 out of 5 stars Waterproof but not durable 20 Jan 2011
I purchased a 3 of these map cases for D of E groups to use last year. Within 3 months one of the map cases, after one outing failed where the neck strap joined map case, the whole black tab came off. This was not too much of a problem because there is another set of black tabs at the other end of the map case which were used instead.

After a couple more outings the roll top peeled away from the main body of the map case making it unusable after less than a year or moderate use. One of the other Ortlieb map cases also failed in the same manner with the roll top peeling off of the main body of the case and the final map case one of the D of E groups managed to tear it!

So in less than a year all 3 purchased, failed. I will not be buying Ortlieb map cases again. They were definitely waterproof but they were not sufficiently robust to be used by teenagers. I will be going back to cheaper models that can last longer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Waterproof but thoroughly irritating 9 July 2011
By Jon T
Well on the plus side it is waterproof. But the neck cord is a waste of time; a royal pain in the ass to use with Ordnance Survey maps and having it flapping around in the wind is irritating. After two plastic tabs that attach the string to the case failed, it now resides in the backpack.

Delivery and quality of product are just as I had understood, one slight improvement would be to accept standard A4 sized page inside the case.
