Book Description

1 Jun 2009 Moody Classics
I INTRODUCTION IN DEFENCE OF EVERYTHING ELSE THE only possible excuse for this book is that it is an answer to a challenge. Even a bad shot is dignified when he accepts a duel. When some time ago I published a series of hasty but sincere papers, under the name of "Heretics," several critics for whose intellect I have a warm respect (I may mention specially Mr. G.S.Street) said that it was all very well for me to tell everybody to affirm his cosmic theory, but that I had carefully avoided supporting my precepts with example. "I will begin to worry about my philosophy," said Mr. Street, "when Mr. Chesterton has given us his."

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! 4 Sep 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Fabulous read. Full of wit and reasoned argument for orthodoxy. GK Chesterton is always logical and witty while using the Truth Himself - Jesus - to prove through the written word the case for the 2,000 year old truths of the Catholic Church. To read and understand Orthodoxy is to cease to be a heretic or an Atheist. Wonderful!

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly modern 1 Jan 2013
By David
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The thoughts put forward are highly relevant today and there is a certain quality captured by Chesterton that I have rarely found elsewhere. He gives the impression of being at once young and childlike but devastatingly rational and well read. I found some parts slightly more difficult to follow but that is due to his vast wealth of sources and knowledge compared to mine! Well worth a read, especially if you have enjoyed CS Lewis' Christian writings. You can't go far wrong when it's free.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read 16 Dec 2012

Well worth a read, Chesterton has a real knack for writing poetically. He writes with passion and violence for the things he believes. I've never read his books before, but I'll be reading more from now on

A great read. It really helped me to see how I can logically explain my faith to others. A must read for all thinkers!
