Review

Myshelf.com: First there was Chinese Knots For Beaded Jewellery, then came Celtic Knots For Beaded Jewellery (both reviewed on this site). Now here is a whole new book with more knots and exciting things to make with them; time to get the corkboard out again! The author must have read my comments on wanting to tie the dragonfly knot pictured in the first book, because here it is in all its glory. There are lots of diagrams and staged photographs to follow in here, including one for the gorgeous Guinevere knot to actually pin on the board and fix your cord to. There are ideas on dyeing cords to match your outfits, and not only rat tail gets used but other cords including leather thronging, the latter to great effect. You can use these knotted pieces to showcase some wonderful beads (if you have them) or use up oddments from other projects like I do, and like the author also does in various examples. This is a great hands-on book that will take pride of place next to the other two on my keeper shelves. Also, here is a craft that does not cost a lot of money which is all to the good. Another useful and attractive primer on an unusual subject. A collection of new knots, projects and designs. Suzen has always loved arts and crafts and her jewellery now incorporates knots from all over the world and from all periods of history. She complements the knots with unusual and exotic beads she's collected from her travels. We've recommended her books before, because every machine knitter needs inspiration for adding finishing touches. For example there's a beautiful Dragonfly Brooch that only needs some braided cord. You can add a brooch pin as suggested or simply sew it on to a garment to look absolutely stunning. Microwave instructions are in the book for dyeing your own cord to match the yarn you've used, and once the simple techniques for making knots are mastered, designs can be as extravagant or as simple as you want. No specialist equipment is required and you need no special skills. Suzen includes detailed step-by-step photographs, diagrams, helpful advice and inspirational projects. It's definitely one for your wish list.-Machine Knitting Monthly

5.0 out of 5 stars Beaded Jewellery 10 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback
This is a great book that shows how to do knots slightly differently from some of the other books. They mostly use a cork board and pins to layout the cord, which I find slightly easier than trying to use my fingers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok I suppose 15 Nov 2010
By Mal Page VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this after seeing Suzen at a bead fair. The book is OK and covers a range of knots but there are a few down sides.
You seem to need a heck of a lot of cord to make anything of any gravitas in the way of knots. Anyone buying the book thinking cord is cheap in relation to chain had better think again. Also, a lot of the knots are small and lack impact.
Having said that the instructions are quite easy to follow and you get what it says on the tin. I'm just not 'grabbed' by the whole thing in the way I thought I might be.

2.0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTING 7 Oct 2010
By JHOPE
Format:Paperback
Unfortunately, I found this book rather disappointing. The instructions are unclear with missing stages that leave you having to figure out for yourself what to do next. Diagrams are confusing and difficult to follow. Materials - especially cords - are briefly explained and there are no lists of suppliers.
