The first and still the best gardening book I ever bought (I now have extensive library). An absolute bible for all those wishing to grow their own fruit and veg in a normal back garden. Geoff's approach is to mix the decorative and the edible together in borders - a nice break from the usual design fascists! It should appeal to all levels of gardening expertise from beginner to experienced.
He talks you through everything from garden history, design and practicalities to advice on cultivation and care of flowers, fruit and veg. Great practical projects (cold frames, pergolas, arbours etc) and wonderful month-by-month checklists. Also sections on different flowers, shrubs and veg which are tried, tested and decorative.
A must! Got me into BBC Gardener of the Year final anyhow!
