Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Just bought a new Mac to replace your old PC? Move2Mac moves all your data, and migrates your important settings, such as Internet Explorer favourites, internet settings and your desktop wallpaper to the Mac Move2Mac is a software and cable solution that lets you easily move information from your PC to the Mac, saving you from the tedious process and frustrations of doing it manually. Move2Mac lets you quickly and easily transfer music, photos, files, folders, and more. But, Move2Mac does more than just move data files. It also moves important settings like Internet Explorer favorites and backgrounds. You can even select the file types and settings to move, so your new Mac isn't cluttered with unwanted files. With Move2Mac, you'll be productive right from the start! Saves time - Moving from a PC to a Mac by yourself can takes hours. With Move2Mac, a typical migration of 500 MB takes about 15 minutes.

Eliminates frustration - Without Move2Mac, you’ll have to go through a tedious process that includes burning CDs and copying them to your Mac, or even worse, emailing the files from the PC to the Mac. On top of all that, you’ll still have to set up all your folders again. The bottom line – it’s a real pain to do the move without Move2Mac.

Choose what to move - Specify the settings and file types you want to move to your new Mac. Move2Mac brings all the folders those files are in, and recreates the same folders on the Mac. Move2Mac gives you choice in what to move, letting you leave all the clutter behind.

3.0 out of 5 stars An expensive and very slow but nonetheless effective solution, 1 Dec 2007

This review is from: Move 2 Mac (Mac) (CD-ROM)
Moving large quantities of files from PC to Mac is a problem with lots of different solutions. The actual volume is of course the main issue. Dependent on how well you can navigate networking and IP addresses you can use your network or an ethernet link. The latter involves buying a cable (and the correct one seems to be a matter of debate). Mac user groups are notoriously full of geeks and the posts tend to be unintelligible unless your share their tendency to geek speak and need to show off a poor grasp of grammar and punctuation. The easy way out is to use this (now aging) software solution from Detto involving a USB link.

Move2Mac is very easy to use and because of this can indeed save you a lot of anguish and hours poring over Google searches to try to find someone who has a life and can tell you in simple English what to do. Of the few reviews oif this software you will find most (including this reviewer) show justified irritation about the rip off nature of this product which is single use. So get your PC cleaned up before you plunge in with the solution. A complete idiot can use it so long as you avoid transferring worthless files for applications you cannot have on the mac (few unless you don't invest in office for mac and waste your life with games). The big drawback is the speed of this connection. The cable supplied is clearly 1990's technology. It will take 1 day to shift around 75Gb. Provided you have a life! of course you can simply leave it to get on with the job. Having wasted three days struggling to reset the iMAC and PC IP address to facilitate an ethernet transfer in the end I personally think its worth it. It does seem a shame that this company is so stingy with its licenses but I guess they have a cornered market. Giving the booming sales of the new intel macs and iMac in particular I suspect there will be a lot of people take a look at this.

I suggest you buy it before you even attempt the alternatives provided you have a reasonable volume of data. Otherwise the Apple advice on using a 4Gb flash drive or even CDs is a whole lot cheaper (and of course you can use the flash drive again and again!)
