Book Description

Two young men set out on their journeys through life from very different directions. Born into a squalid, underprivileged background, David aspires to fly free. James, overindulged in everything, is attracted to life in the gutter. The momentum builds as circumstances draw both David and James into the exciting world of aviation. David's story portrays the betrayal of innocence. James' story illustrates how a pampered and privileged upbringing can produce an unhappy individual, constantly craving supremacy and prepared to use any means, however demonic, to achieve his own ends. Their origins have shaped their futures but how will this affect the parallel course they find themselves on as they take off to fulfil their destinies?

4.0 out of 5 stars Different 12 Nov. 2011
By hilwill
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this whilst waiting at an airport and then on the flight and I must say, Ms Hill certainly knows her stuff! Trying to guess how all the characters might come together at the end added to the enjoyment, I shall never look at the cabin crew in the same light having read the book. A good read with a dramatic climax.

5.0 out of 5 stars Desperate for a sequel 24 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read Origins on the train to Newcastle and back and was very poor company for my travelling companions!Pam Hill brought the characters in this book alive for me.I could not put it down, such was my desperation to find out what became of them all. Parts of it were a very tough read, the violence that took place in the park for example and the appalling home life of David. And I was always expecting Qas to be revealed as part of the terrorist's ring! Pam's book has it all, rich characters, subtle plot, suspense and social commentary. Anyone who is, or ever has been, airline cabin crew will be delighted with Pam's faithful representation of their role. I really hope she is working on a follow up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!! 3 Mar. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this book in one sitting as I simply could not put it down. It is such a clever story and so relevant to today's society. Pam Hill has skillfully looked at the fabric of society and extremism and woven it into a fast-paced, intriguing novel. Using an airline as backdrop is so unique - it truly was a breath of fresh air to read this thriller.

Why this has not been snapped up by TV is a mystery to me as I can easily see it making an easy transition as a mini-series or one-off drama.

I really hope there is a sequel or more offerings from Pam Hill - as a voracious reader, I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read MUST be continued! 24 May 2012
By LouiseH
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book drew me in from the beginning when I imagined I was on an aircraft in this situation. A clever twist meant I was not. Pam has many more twists in store for the reader. It is easy reading and gives great insight into life as an airline crew member and the perils that can easily occur both onboard and off. One falls in love with the down trodden David and hopes that his future is to be brighter with his move away from home. Yet unfolding events make his life more beguiling than ever and the end of the story actually leaves you wanting to know more. Pam Hill must write a sequel to this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grippingly different read! 18 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is one of those rare gems of a novel which offers something a bit different - the characters are well drawn but it's the plot that makes this recommended reading. Pam Hill uses her experience of the airline industry to weave a tangled web, intersperced with some biting social commentary and she doesn't give you any clue as to how the different strands of the story will ultimately come together. I couldn't put it down - I really couldn't - and the last page left me wanting which is the job of a suspense writer. Well done Pam! Can't wait for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like this:- 30 Sept. 2011
By Don
Format:Kindle Edition
An air stewardess, a teenage boy, an Asian shopkeeper and his extended family and a bullying thug. Nothing in common you might think. Skilful storytelling links them together seamlessly leading to a flashpoint climax with a surprising twist.
Intriguing, imaginative scenarios make this a very enjoyable read. I recommend it.

I really enjoyed this story. Very well put together, interest maintained all the way through. I finished it in two days, couldn't put it down ! I'm a retired airline pilot, who actually flew with Pam Hill, but our flights together were not as exciting, I'm glad to say. Very enjoyable, looking forward to the next one !
