An expanded and remastered version of Killing Joke's live album THE UNPERVERTED PANTOMIME, this CD/DVD collection presents the British post-punk in its raging early incarnation. Highlights include the pummeling tracks "Wardance" and "Change", along with fierce rare tunes such as "Malicious Boogie" and "You're Being Followed". The video portion of the release features Killing Joke performing other classics (most notably "The Wait" and "Requiem") on a 1981 American tour.

This is an appalling product, as it just seems to be a direct copy of the cassette version to a CD, without any remastering or even hiss reduction. The first 4 tracks are already available in great quality on the BBC Sessions CD - the versions on here are just terrible quality and not worth listening to.
The other tracks from the original cassette are for the collector only. Some have already been released on the "other" Unperverted Pantomime CD, and as better quality versions too.

To add insult to injury, the "free" DVD is one that is freely available (ie for NOTHING) at a well-known torrent hosting site. The text notes are even copied verbatim from that website too !

I have this album on original cassette (number 1602) and it is just as good as this so-called digital version. Don't waste your money.

I just thought the above review was a wee bit harsh.
I too had the cassette version but was getting worn out so a CD replacement was the logical conclusion.
Though the CD I bought had the version of the Sex Pistols 'Bodies' omitted probably due to licensing, now included here..it's not 'essential' to have but is a right shambles and quite funny.
Some of the other tracks are quite rare like 'Animal' and 'you're being followed' and pretty good.
This was recorded pretty early in their career and is quite a good document of the band.
yes' they could have re-mastered it a bit as we are now in the digital age and that maybe let's it down a bit but I would give it a thumbs up.
If we're talking about 'cash-ins' then some of the 're-mix albums and single package collections are but I don't think this is.

Let's make things clear. Here is a single disc - one side is CD audio, the other side is DVD. First the bad news; the audio side is terrible quality. It sounds like an old cassette you've had for 30 years that was worn out 20 years ago. Search out the "Unperverted Pantomime" cd issued on Pilot records some years ago. This is miles better in every respect. The reasons for the exclusion of Pssyche and Bodies from the Pilot release are demonstrated by their inclusion here. After playing this I was looking up Amazon's return policy.

Now the better news. The DVD side is more interesting. There are glitches and drop-outs on both the sound and visual recordings, but overall the sound is great and with a prominent bass sound like the early Malicious Damage recordings. The visuals are in black and white and are often poor, like a bad Youtube moment, but also at times intimate and revealing of the early line-up. All filmed from just one camera. Not great but at least interesting. On balance I decided to hang on to my copy (just!)
