OK - lets be completely open and honest here - I am a massive INXS fan, always have been!

So, after 'switch' taking its time to grow on me, I wasn't sure what to expect from this album. I went into it with an open mind, and I am glad that I did. Had I have been expecting anything then I definitely got something different!!!! I get what the team have done, and I think that for some tracks it works, then for others it absolutely doesn't. Then again there will be listeners out there who will think to the contrary and think those tracks that I like haven't worked. To that end, I think the album probably achieves something that most other INXS albums generally don't. There is something here for the masses at least a couple of tracks, rather than appealing to a genre of fans.

Would I recommend buying it? Hhhhmmmm good question. Yes, if like me you 'need' to have this album in your collection to ensure you have 'the lot'. If you are not like minded then I would see if you can listen to a number of tracks before spending the money. Sorry INXS.....

Happy listening.

Missing Michael 12 Mar 2011
By Michael Kerner - Published on Amazon.com
Hard to believe it has been almost 14 years since INXS and the world faced the heartbreaking tragedy of the death of Michael Hutchence. It has shown to be a devistating blow for the group top to bottom. While they've tried to soldier on with J.D. Fortune with 2005's Switch, it still felt like it was missing heart. That has shown too for INXS, trying to soldier on with Michael's passing, and unfortunately they have been suffering. Instead of making new music, they've made the decision to pay tribute to their classic success with the 2011 album Original Sin. Yet the idea does seem to be interesting with the performances, including Beautiful Girl with Pat Monahan from Train, and Ben Harper doing the classic Never Tear Us Apart. The album sadly doesn't shine the way INXS chose to re-work their classics. Not only that, but there could've been more of their classics they could've made like Suicide Blonde from X, and the classic Need You Tonight. All in all, the feeling of the songs just doesn't feel like it shines, and that is sadly something INXS has accepted. If you're new to INXS, I would definitely recommend passing this up and instead buy INXS's greatest hits instead. Original Sin is worth tearing apart.

I really like this 23 Mar 2011
By Matthias Elsdrfer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I read a couple of reviews panning this release, so I wanted to contribute my own to say that I really like it. Make no mistake, this takes a lot of getting used to when you know and love the original songs. For instance, the version of "Mystify" on here is NOTHING like the original, same goes for "New Sensation".

But hey, if I want the originals, I listen to the originals (preferably in 5.1 DTS Surround sound on the "I'm only looking" DVD set). IMHO, the tracks on this album are truly imaginative recreations of INXS classics, covering interesting new territory. Some passages (or almost entire songs) have been translated into Spanish or French, some songs have a meditative, spiritual flow to them (New Sensation) while others are energetic and thumping (Original Sin).

Many artists have tried remixing or remaking their own songs, or covering others', and more often than not, these efforts are uninspired and insipid. Others worked just great, like the Frankie Goes to Hollywood 12" mixes, or Linkin Park's "Reanimation". And this is where I place INXS' "Original Sin".

The sound is rich, dynamic and powerful, and it helps to make this disc a real delight that you'll want to turn up. I recommend it if you want to hear some very unusual versions of INXS classics.

Quit Whining 9 April 2011

News Flash! Michael Hutchence has left the planet.

He was an awesome singer and a key component of INXS. No doubt about it. So why in Heaven's name do people keep reviewing this album as if INXS kicked him out of the band and tried to do it on their own? For all those "true believers" out there who claim they were fans since the dawn of the band, recall many albums had so-so songs. How about "Three Sisters" from Thieves or "Men and Women" off Welcome. For those same true believers, I'm sure they also remember that the band had many many remixes of their songs starting with Shabooh Shoobah and the Dekadance LP and Dance cassette. The band has always allowed other DJ's to remix their music.

With that said.....This album is just fine. There is nothing wrong with taking some of your best songs, giving them up to a modern day music writer and then having big name stars come in and record what you think is best. To Look At You, Mediate and Beautiful Girl sound great (Beautiful Girl always sounds better to me than the way it was recorded on Welcome. And while many people think the whole thing should have been done with JD, and as much as I think JD rocks it, I'd say Kavyen Temperley rocked To Look At You.

Lastly, to those folks saying the band should have let someone else record a tribute to them, it was done....with Beck and Record Club's cover of Kick.

I think this ablum is very good with maybe one or two misses. The challenge this record will face, as every INXS record after X faced, is poor marketing/management from those responsible for getting the music airplay. My last complaint is the lack of a U.S. release on iTunes and no way for the States to get Love Is.
