4.0 out of 5 stars THE FIRST RECORDINGS 13 Dec 2006
By Pieter Uys HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
The highlights for me on this very first recording of the legendary Sandy Denny in 1967 are My Ramblin' Boy, The Last Thing On My Mind, Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor and You Never Wanted Me. She sings with passion, her voice dips, soars and trembles whilst her guitar playing is mesmeric. I don't like all of the songs though and I think the material she recorded with Fairport Convention was generally more memorable. But this is an essential album for lovers of 1960s folk music, especially of the UK variety. The genius of Denny was born and formed here on these early recordings, and her mastery of the acoustic guitar adds to the sonic enjoyment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Early Sandy Classic 16 Mar 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
First, let me state my bias : Sandy was at her peak with Fairport's Leige and Lief. This CD pre dates Leige and Lief by several years and is typical early '60's pure folk music (and within that genre, this CD is a "5").
Sandy's voice is perfection : clear, crisp and chilling; instrumental backing is sparse, mostly only acoustic guitar. Best tracks? "You Never Wanted Me", "The Last Thing on my Mind", and "The False Bride", all classic folk of the era. Not really a bum track on the CD. Only gripe - 10 songs only, lasting 30 minutes!
Conclusion, if you like Sandy and/or early '60s folk (and don't mind a short LP), buy this one

3.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality but interesting early work 26 May 2003
By P. J. Walstra - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This CD is clearly a copy from a Vinyl original and you can actually hear the pops & Clicks. It does however provide an interesting insight into Sandy's work early in her career. For completists only.
