Product Description

2014 archive release from the late Rock guitarist containing 10 previously unreleased tracks. A life and career cut short but not before these jams were caught on tape with all their energy and freedom of expression. Jams from this guitar legend and his famous friends have been preserved and are now being released with the assistance of Johnny Bolin, The Tommy Bolin Archives, and the Glen Holly Studio's Phil Polimeni.

Another collection of jamming material from master Tommy Bolin, showing his great talent in a mix of rock, jazz and funk. Great jamming , variable sound quality, mostly satisfying...MOSTLY, because sadly there are some serious issues here.
Let me start with the title: "Original Raw Uncut": original-definitly, raw-certainly but uncut?...With a jam clocking at 43 sec, I doubt it...But nevermind that, those kinds of interlude are nice snippets of jam sessions.
What I really mind is that the longest track on the album (Collective energy-track 7), almost 13 minutes long, has been mastered by someone who fell asleep at the table. The volume is SO LOW on that track, you can barely hear anything, and if it wasn't enough at 8min is starts to skip/glitch (and it's definitly not the cd as the counter of the player is running fine. So it must be in the mastering or further down the line). And it's definitly a digital error and not something from the original tape.
The track which seems to be the centre piece of this album is just ruined by a lack of professionalism, and therefor the entire album loses its credibility. This is definitly an album that only die-hard Bolin fans are going to get and they deserve to get a job well done!

This could have been a 4 stars, because it is so interesting to hear Bolin on those unfamiliar jams (as oppose to the "Whips and roses" and "Whirlwind" material-which by the way are excellent!), but the experience is ruined by 13 minutes of sonic nightmare.

Hopefully Johnny Bolin and Phillip Polimeni will fix that and pay more attention if a Vol. 2 is ever released.

Not one of his best, purely good to average jams. Check out his solo albums Teaser and Private Eyes to see him really fly.

1 Star - but not because of the music - the mastering! 13 Feb. 2014
By Lambchops - Published on Amazon.com
It's always great to hear Tommy Bolin and this CD is again, a great CD for the music. However, there are several issues with this CD.

1) The volume is all over the map! It really needs to be remastered properly. Out of the 10 tracks, most are very low - especially track 7 - which is much lower volume than track 8 - and if you adjust your stereo, you will have to run to turn it down when track 8 starts. It's not cohesive or consistent at all. My guess would be that no mastering engineer even took a look a stab at it. Why? It appears that normalization was used to increase the volume as high as the highest point will allow. That means that most of the track is very low with one or two spikes that prevent it from being increased in volume - which is what normalization does.

2) Track 7 has digital glitches on my copy - not sure if it appears on all of them or not. Try playing it at the 8:05 mark onward.

3) Some tracks have space at the beginning and some do not. Again it's inconsistent. Some tracks have up to 5 seconds silence at the end and most often start what appears to be in the middle of the song. I know it's a jam but a small fade or something - it's just ...bad.

This is the worst release of all the Tommy Bolin releases issued by the estate. Very disappointed. Sounds as if it was thrown together at home and rushed to market with no professional mastering done - perhaps the most amateurish CD I own among the 8000 or so I own. This is the last time I spend on money on these type of releases from the Bolin estate as I have bought every release to date.
Live Jams Raw & Uncut & Unedited 27 Jun. 2014
By tom nikosey - Published on Amazon.com
This record is a direct recording from Tommy's late night Jams at the infamous Glen Holly Studio of his best friend Phillip Polimeni (RIP). These Jams are Raw, that is the point! Not studio finished, not sound leveled, not perfect, hence the title, but from one who witnessed these first hand recordings-this is the real sound from Glen Holly.
The unfortunate 1 star review missed the point. There are plenty of Tommy's other studio recordings from Teaser, and his other albums that are fabulous but no other recordings show this raw and spontaneous side to this genius.
I knew Tommy and observed his late night energy and uncut song sketches.
This record is priceless for anyone who wants an inside earview of the real Tommy loosening up behind the scene.
