Format:Audio CD
The only real competition for this box set comes from the Pebbles/Trash box (also available from Amazon). This set wins hands down in terms of sound quality and packaging, although the Pebbles set is also superb. All the classic tunes from Lenny Kaye's original compilation are present and correct, along with over a hundred other amazing punky freakouts.
Unlike Pebbles, which is pretty uniformly fuzz guitar and screaming youths, Nuggets has its tender moments. Consider the Nazz's 'Open My Eyes' which sounds like a prettier version of The Who's 'I Can't Explain'. The pop sensibility of this set means that there are plenty of other points of access for those who aren't used to hardcore sixties fuzz, such as Incense and Peppermints (as heard in Austin Powers) and Liar, Liar (Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barells). If you buy this set, you'll have everything you need to start work on a real obsession.

Mostly killer, hardly any filler, this collection is beatifully packaged, with an informative booklet that gives the music a context. For those who love music for fun, this collection is a joy, a primer for 60's music that isn't the Beatles, Stones, Byrds, Dylan (but celebrates it), and a good start to a garage collection. Best tracks have to be 'My world fell down' by Sagittarius (feat. Glenn Campbell), 'A Public Execution' by Mouse and the magnificent '7 and 7 is' by Love. But there are scores more gems that will take you a pleasnat time to discover. Really, highly recommended.

The first instalment in what is currently five boxes of "Nuggets"; essentially the sound of the American Underground in the late 60s (later boxes include San Fransisco, LA and even a UK version).
Whereas many compilations from the 60s have tracks a-plenty, many are worth no more than a quick press of the skip button. This 4cd set gets played from start to finish on a regular basis, and its amazing how many of them have been covered by current artists. Other reviewers here list their favourites - mine change from one listen to the next.
A collection to immerse yourself in an enjoy.
A word of warning though - nothing to do with the product - if you are purchasing one of the cheaper versions from a non-EU based county (I bought mine new from the US) even though if was £15 cheaper than any I could find in the UK, I got a £15 customs charge, which I had to pay at the Post Office to collect.....thought I should pass this on!
