Another reviewer said that "You really cannot go wrong with this 5 Cd set" but a better bargain is 'The Clarke, Hicks & Nash Years: The Complete Hollies, April 1963-October 1968'. It is a 6CD set, with booklet and sleeve notes, all tracks remastered (from 1997 onwards), most of them in stereo, and includes all seven LPs and all seven EPs (and more) from this period for only £3.38 more. (Or even better, only £1.00 more if you get it from Play.com.)

You really cannot go wrong with this 5 Cd set for the Price of 1 Cd set by the Hollies.

However since writing this review 'Bill TDK' has advised me you can do better.
Her is what Bill wrote

Back to my review!

On an historical note The group took their name from their musical hero Buddy Holly,

The 5CD set comes in card LP replica sleeves which I love because storage is so easy. Some however hate them- each to their own.

The track listing is the same as the original LPs so you may need to get out the magnifying glass to read them!
BUT the good news is that the first CD is in Phil Spector like glorious Mono the rest however have been remastered which may mean that people who already have a couple may be tempted to get the improved sound?
On the other hand if you have then on vinyl and they are worn out or scratched then you really are on to a winner.

The 5 LP titles are
"Stay With The Hollies" (1964), "
In The Hollies Style" (1964),
"Hollies" (1965),
"Would You Believe?" (1966) and
"For Certain Because" (1966).

This is a fantastic value purchase of the first 5 Hollies albums in their authentic mono sound. Retailing at about a tenner you can't go wrong. I like the way the CDs are presented as facsimiles of the original LPs.

The mastering appear to date from the late 1990s, so before the loudness wars took hold. You can really crank these CDs up on your system without fear of distortion. The Manchester Sound comes thundering out of the speakers. It's how this band should be heard. It's how these recordings were originally conceived.

Artistically the albums show some minor signs of development up until For Certain Because, which is a very very good pop album indeed, with fantastic melodies and harmonies. The Hollies were fairly recently inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. They were a very good 1960s band. To understand them you should first listen to their first five albums. Then check out the next two called a Evolution and Butterfly. At this point the stereo becomes as interesting as the mono and worth having both.

Although always a fan of the Hollies, saw them live in the 60's,even bought an guitar amplifier from Tony Hicks! never actually bought any of their Lps back in the day; recently bought a "best of" type Cd, but this is an opportunity to hear some of their early stuff - well pleased, great value!

This series of multiple original discs is definitely the way to go to revisit your favourites from the past. This collection went further than the major hits of the group I remembered from my youth.
