Tim Buckley wasn't with us for too long, but what a legacy he left. Forget the anthologies, for the price of a single CD, you are able to purchase five albums which you are likely to play and play again.
I came across Tim in 66 when his first folk-pop album was released and was hooked by his voice. His follow up, and possibly his greatest album Goodbye and Hello is a treasure trove of songs with "Morning Glory" remaining one of the most emotive songs, up there with David Ackles "Down River" in my opinion. After his second album, there was a change in direction with the far looser, and more acoustic Happy Sad, this style stayed with him through Blue Afternoon, but the latter is even more laid back. The final album Lorca completes this marvellous little box.
Anyone wanting to explore Buckley a little further, I strongly recommend the two live albums
Dream Letter - Live In London 1968 and
Live@Folklore Centre Nyc March 6th.
Those of you who know his work and love it will not have read this review, but for any wanting to take a chance, then please do as you will be rewarded with a quite unique artist. The replica LP sleeves in a cardboard slipcase means the package only takes up the space of a single plastic CD case which is a bonus for me.
