Harry Chapin was before my time, but he is my favourite musician without a doubt. I hardly listen to anything else these days.
"Verities & Balderdash" is my favourite of the five albums, followed closely behind by "On the Road to Kingdom Come". These two are the strongest of the albums (in my opinion) but all five albums are fantastic. For me, what I love best about Harry Chapin, is how he can sing a brilliant song whilst at the same time he is actually telling a story.
I was not born until several years after Harry Chapin's death, but I am certainly one of his biggest fans despite this :)
It is extremely difficult to choose a favourite Chapin song, all but one or two songs in this album series are enjoyable to a degree which is beyond description with words.
Among my own personal favourites (in no particular order) are: Taxi, Could You Put Your Light On, Greyhound, Sniper, A Better Place to Be, I Wanna Learn a Love Song, Shooting Star, What Made America Famous, Vacancy, Halfway to Heaven, The Mayor of Candor Lied, The Parade's Still Passing By, Corey's Coming, If My Mary Were Here and many, many more!
In fact, almost all of Harry's songs are great. The only bad one (I am sad to say) in my opinion is probably 30,000 Pounds of Bananas, I tend to skip that one.
If you buy "Harry Chapin: The Original Album Series" you will not be disappointed at all, quite the contrary, you will have obtained the best five albums in the history of recorded music.
I also highly recommend "Greatest Stories Live" :)
