Worth the price for the previously unavailable on CD 'Just A Touch Of Love' alone. I love Slave, even though they were pretty patchy at times - but when they were on, you knew it. I'm sure all Slave fans have their favourites - though for me, 'Stone Jam' is the most consistent set here, through-and-through. If you want to investigate Slave thoroughly, bypass their various compilations and dive headfirst into the real deal - this is cheap enough to hear the best years in their entirety. Too many standouts - 'Slide', 'You And Me', 'Party Lights', the mighty 'Watching You', etc...check out the bizarre 'Warning' for bass that will startle the neighbours (Mark Adams - truly one of a kind).

Would be churlish to give this anything less than 5 stars, even if I don't like every single track. Well done, Rhino.

It's Slave, Of Course it's Funky! 11 May 2010

As much as I have purchased items through Amazon, I have never felt compelled to post a review of anything I have purchased until now. Yes, this collection comes in a simple box with no extra liner notes. Yes, the discs themselves are individually contained in cardboard sleeves with extremely tiny reproductions of the front and back album art. But if you can get past these relatively minor inconvienences, it is Slave and the music sounds great and takes you back to the days when these types of groups ruled the radio. If you're a Funk collector, you already have four of the five included discs on other, better packaged collections and you're seeking to get the "Just a Touch Of Love" disc, which to my knowledge, has never been available on CD in it's entirety before. But it's still great sounding Old School grooves by music's premier funk band. I would rather have it available in this format, than not have it all. Highly recommended.

Finally, finally, finally.............FINALLY 9 July 2010

First five albums.....ORIGINAL ALBUMS, MIND YOU...of one of the founding members of funk in the '70s. Unless they completely screwed it up by producing remakes/remixes/etc....(and they seem determined to assure one and all that they did not), then this set is THA BOMB...and MUST BE a part of any funkster's collection. I LOVE THIS!!!!

p.s. Music labels seem to be OH SO SLOWLY hearing the appeals of ol' skool funk and R&B fans...enough with the tepid "Greatest Hits", "Best Of", productions. Give us the original s---!!!

I was glad to find this on Amazon. If your a fan of Slave, i suggest you get this dynamic box set. This also would make a great gift. I have the first album on Vinyl, but when I saw this box set with the first five albums, i had to get this. All songs are original songs and no "make overs". Highlights "Slide", "The Party Song" "Stellar Funk", and many many others....
Real FUNK Dammit!!!!!! 13 April 2011

Do you know how hard it was to find some of these on CD? I am soo glad someone took the time to issue these Great albums as a box Set. You would be hard pressed to hear any of this stuff on "Lamestream Radio", because well...you just won't. This is Real funk with Real Musicians in the forefront, not backing up some Lame Rap artist! I remember as a kid seeing these bands and wanting to do what they do.The most amazing thing about these is that they are Original! No So, so remixes just the real thing! If you are a serious "Funkateer", then Dammit, you gotta buy these right nowwwwwww!
