Biography

Bassist Stanley Clarke was barely out of his teens when he exploded into the jazz world in 1971. Fresh out of the Philadelphia Academy of Music, he arrived in New York City and immediately landed jobs with famous bandleaders such as Horace Silver, Art Blakey, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson, Pharaoh Saunders, Gil Evans, Stan Getz and a budding young pianist-composer named Chick Corea.

A box set of 5 CD's for £11.99? Now that is what I call value for money!

I had all of these releases previously, but only on a cassette format (with the exception of one that I already had on CD).

Though the direction of some of these releases is more commercial than some of Stanley Clarke's earlier, more jazz oriented albums, (and in some cases some of the songs now sound a little dated as in the case of Find Out!) they do still showcase some outstanding bass work and I have really enjoyed getting into these albums again after not hearing them for years. it's been great taking a trip down memory lane as I have played them. This is a worthy addition to my CD collection.

Amazing. 5 of Stanley's best albums from the 80's with mini lp covers in a box! 23 Mar. 2013

Amazing is all I can say. 5 of Stanley's best albums from the 80's in one budget priced box set. This is is a wonderful companion to the budget priced set that contains 5 of his best albums from the 70's. As we enter the 80's you see Stanley's playing mellow a bit and there is more focus on the songs. There is less flamboyant playing more emphasis on the overall sound. These are great albums and there is still plenty of blistering bass work to satisfy everyone. The CD set is very nice. It comes in a sturdy CD sized box that houses the 5 CD's in mini LP covers. The sound quality of the set is excellent. They did a nice job on the mastering and the discs sound warm and full similar to the original LP's.Considering you and pick up these sets for around $15.00 I would recommend you pick up this one up with the first set that covers the 70s' and you will have 10 of his best records for a price that was less than we paid for these on vinyl in the 70's and 80'sl
