Sony, what took you so long ? For years, we waited and waited in vain for some label to have both Labelle's terrific pre-Lady Marmalade RCA album "Pressure Cookin'" and the equally terrific and underated "Phoenix" issued - and for the first time too - on CD, but nobody was interested, despite pleas from diehard fans on chat forums, etc.
Then finally, BGO, an independant UK label, responded by collecting together and digitally remastering all three original Epic label Lady Marmalade era Labelle albums in one CD and putting it out as "Night Birds/Phoenix/Chameleon". Brilliant idea. Shortly thereafter, US indie label Reel Music, answered our prayers by also digitally remastering and releasing "Pressure Cookin" on CD. So finally, we have all of Labelle's original 70s albums in CD format and we have two indie labels to thank for that.
So big music label Sony, why bother with this "Original Album Classics" release now that others have stolen a march over you ? This product not only comes across as redundant, we don't even know if the albums in here have been remastered. Five stars for content, one star off for poor timing.
Dear Sony, it's not too late to redeem yourself - you can now do the next best thing by reissuing on CD Labelle's first two 70s albums, "Labelle" and "Moonshadow", both issued on CD by Wounded Bird, the former still available but rare and expensive and the latter deleted and now unavailable except on download. Both these releases don't have their sounds remastered, so Sony, you can do one better and put these two albums out digitally remastered.
C'mon Sony, show us fans you can do it.
