Format:Audio CD
If you put aside the notion that Sony have come up with yet another way of recycling old product without too much effort, and the "bounce" created by "Glee" TV series and X Factor's Geordie Joe, this boxset is actually very good. It contains the 3 discs that turned Journey from a very good American band into a world class act. Ok, so these discs are originally over 25 years old, but here's the deal clincher, these are the polished up 2005 versions with bonus tracks,in cardboard replica sleeves, all housed in a sturdy outer sleeve. The music is a treat, and is virtually the greatest hits spread over the three discs. If you are coming to Journey for the first time, or are making a welcome return and replacing your worn out vinyl or crappy '80's CD's, this is probably all the Journey you'll ever need. This is classic '80's American AOR played by a band who were at the top of their creative game, from a time when music like this ruled the airwaves.

I bought these on vinyl when they were first released in the 1970's, this is the band Greg Rolie formed after leaving Santana, they were an experimental jazz rock group, Steve Perry did not join the group until their 4th album Infinity when the record company made them go more commercial or be dropped. These first 3 albums are Journey,Look Into The Future and Next and are quite different to the Steve Perry stuff. I've always liked these 3 albums 'cos they are slightly heavier more intersting to get into. When ever they have been reviewed in Rock magazines in the past when they have had a rerelease these 3 albums have always had medeocre reviews simply because the reviewer is comparing them to the Steve Perry era when you shouldn't, they were quite a different band aiming at a more serious music lover when they started. Buy and enjoy but don't expect soppy love songs.

I think that this manner of re-releasing old albums on CD is to be applauded. I personally think that it is a much better way of collecting the 'best of' certain groups. I had no hesitation in buying these 3 albums, having last owned one as vinyl back in the 80's. I recently bought the Bruce Springsteen and Simon & Garfunkel sets as well for great prices, again as I say, I think it is a good way of re-introducing classic rock music back into the system (especially for those of us who were around at the time!). I also generally prefer the card cd cases these days, easpecially as part of a box set, so quite happy with that aspect as well.
