I think time has been kind to Adam Ant,his music is very fun, innovative pop music arriving at the crossroads between post punk, new romanticism and MTV.
What i may have overlooked initially with Ant is the sheer inventiveness of the sound and image. This original album classics set includes Ants albums Dirt Wear White Sox,Kings Of The Wild Frontier and Prince Charming. It is an affordable purchase though it is slipcase packaging.
Kings Of The Wild Frontier is a great 80s album and definetley shifted any form of snobbery i may have had.Adam Ant is a great artist, obviously he's no Bowie but still there is plenty to enjoy and admire.
Frontiers definetly is going in my list of great 80s albums along with Jacko,The Smiths,Mary Chain and Duran.
People who grew up besotted with Ant have always retained that love, its very nostalgic stuff of maybe a time when it was a bit more innocent and fun to be a teenager.
Adam Ant has had a difficult time but i really respect him for talking openly about mental health issues,a taboo subject in our glossed over times. Its been great to see him appearing as a talking head on various music docs recently, seems an open always charismatic guy.
And by golly DOES HE LOOK GOOD FOR HIS AGE.57?????I know for one thing when i am that age i will be bald, wrinkly, have cauliflower eyes,a boulbous red nose and 3 teeth.A Dorian Gray.
Ant is also touring and a new album is iminent. Its odd a lot of the 80s artists that we're ridiculed by serious poncey critics such as Paul Morley really seemed to have lasted the course and been held in the affections of the audience.Damn right too.
This is unashamed pop music.
Ridicule is nothing to be scared of.
